Assuming JP isnt traded by Sunday

Team: 2019-20 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 28, 2019
Published: Nov. 28, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
If he isn't gone for someone who can help the Oilers today what are some other options the Oilers could look at? Namestinkov, Gusev, Jankowski, are some names that they could look at. Brief sidetrack on the Colorado game. Not super worried yet about secondary scoring cause Nuge is coming back. Would have liked to see someone jump to Chiassons defence right away even though it was a clean hit, in Edmonton you saw Calvert go after Kassian right away. I know theres a big talent difference between Chiasson and Mackinnon but you'd like to see everyone buy in. The Larsson penalty... double minor but ok

Im curious to see how much pressure management has on themselves to get a deal done this year? As much as just letting Poolparty rot in Finland sounds nice, the optics don't paint Edm in a good light either.

I don't think that they are to worried as I think there will be better offers at the draft. I think he will be moved by next season, but even if they do move him now whichever team gets him is better off letting him finish the year in Finland.

None at all. JP has already stated he will not sign an nhl contract this year and will remain for the full season in Finland. By the looks of it (only one tournament in with 3 games 1 assist) he may not make team Finland for the worlds and his nhl career may come to an end. Complaints from team Finland scouts were very low level hockey sense, inability to play a team system and large looping lazy circles over starts and stops.

Oh didn't hear that! I guess that pretty much closes that. I wonder if he feels by giving a full season of Liiga hockey will give other teams more time to scout him and then in turn more teams may be willing to pay what Edm is asking? That would all but prove that Holland told him either play good enough for another team to want to pay my price or say good bye to the NHL. Which in a certain way i agree with. JP's stance with Edmonton was premature. He decided not to return to Edm way too early.

Yeah I didn't he told teams he was staying in Finland. that kind of changes things. I think him saying that is beneficial to both parties. Assuming he doesn't crap the bed in Finland, which I doubt he will.

The other major complaint for the nhl is his poor English. He isn’t improving that in Finland.

In fact he isn’t improving his situation at all. Ligament is considered a step below AHL. Even if he tears it up, what does that prove? His problem is not his offence. It’s the rest of his game and the ability to play an nhl system. If he doesn’t make team Finland and shine at the worlds, the best he can hope for is an nhl team to take a flyer on him with a league min one year deal. The big loser will be the oilers. Wouldn’t get more than a mid pick for his rights.

Its probably better than him playing in Edmonton scoring 15 points and getting worse in his mind. At least in the Liiga he is dominating. possibly giving GM's that "what if" factor.

Its not ideal. At all but its a tactic that could eventually lead to another team finally throwing Holland bone and everyone being happy. Still think his best course of action was to stay in the NHL. Especially with a new coach and GM... could have helped him. look at the Oilers now. they're finally playing good. He could have been a part of it.
