Description
Couple of things to break down here. First things first, nothing can fix this team as it stands. Even healthy, this team just can’t compete. They have so little passion and drive, it’s staggering. This is a straight up tear down, so make of it what you want. As far as I’m concerned, no one’s place is safe anymore and everyone should be prepared to say goodbye. This is about youth and cap space. Also, and this goes without saying, this team would probably be even worse. However, there’s plenty of energy and potential along with 1st round picks.

1) Dach and Boqvist go to the world juniors. Boqvist could use some more playing time and Sweden guarantees that. I’m sure he gets plenty of time with Rockford, but this never hurts (as long as he doesn’t get jokiharju’ed in the summer and traded). Dach should have been in juniors this, now he’s 11 straight games without a point, he needs this even more than boqvist.
2) rebuild. Just do it, the writing has been on the wall for a while. I don’t have any clue what kind of value toews has, but I really don’t think he is trade-able right now. Other trades are just what I’m hoping we can get in return.
3) JC and Stan are not the men to lead this team forward. JC has proven to be an incompetent coach long term, with his system and poor man management. Stan has presided over the best period in franchise history, and he will be remembered for it. However, that was then and this is now. We need a new philosophy, much like the red wings did. Holland stayed wayyyyyy too long and they finally hired Steve Yzerman back and now have only one way to go (....up).

For the sake of realism, and knowing the right trade would never happen, dach is exempt from any trade.

@ MisstheWhalers

When you are retooling you don't trade your best guys for downgrades in talent, it's really that simple. Saad is easily a top 3 guy for Chicago and playing the best of his career currently. Let me phrase it another way. With Saad and Toews on the top line they are looking for complimentary winger to those two players, a guy like Kap would be a good example. With Kap and Toews on the top line, that would be a **** show and they would need a much better winger to replace Saad. Saad is an anchor winger as a power forward. Kane is a anchor winger as a dynamic forward. Kap is a very good supporting winger but he's no anchor. Every top 6 line needs to a solid center and anchor winger with a complimentary winger. Kap is a complimentary winger not an anchor. You don't build a line around Kap you add him to a line that's otherwise built.

A trade that makes a lot more sense for both teams is Murphy for Kap since the Hawks have Ian Mitchell coming up and a young Boqvist and Seabs not going anywhere due to his contract on the right side. Leafs need a solid stay at home right side defender. Hawks need a complimentary top line right winger to play with Saad and Toews so Kap is a good fit. Trading Saad is giving up more to get back less.

Saad is an upgrade on the Leafs compared to anything Kapenen could become on the Leafs, Kapenen is an upgrade on the Hawks compared to what Saad brings, it's really a win win for both sides

Could you be more specific about how you believe this is an upgrade for the leafs?
