I don't think NJ can retain anymore contracts past two of those guys. So right there, you;d need to change something up for it to work cap wise.

they could always just retain more on one, if they can only retain 2 at a time they already are on hall, so i would go to 2.5m on simmonds and not sure how the rest would work.

The devils wouldn't just waste all of their retention spots in 1 transaction and plus they've already retained on Hall so they can't retain on more than 2 players for the remainder of this season anyways. Maybe just have the devils retain 50% on Simmonds and take the full salary for the other 2 players. As for the trade, it seems fair but maybe throw in one of your 7ths to completely balance it out. Although personally when the devils do trade Vatanen and Simmonds, they'd probably just want picks and prospects back so making a deal with Toronto would be difficult IMO. Still a decent idea though!

Yep. Just pointing out they already used a retention on Hall so I think they can only do 2 more in season.
