I would do it as a Montreal fan. I think Vegas would rather give there or St Louis 2nd in 2021 instead of NJ since that pick might be a very high 2nd.

We trade a 2nd + 4th for Petry when he was bad
Now he’s very good, half salary retained, a late 1st + early 2nd + B prospect for 2 years top3 RHD is a good price

I don't think it would be in Montreal's best interested to acquire Eakin. He has actual value, so it would just hurt the returns Montreal gets.

It’s for capspace ... maybe Holden or they send Eakin to another team

Just don't think it's the best to get win-now players back, but they could always flip them just like you said.
