Nurse to Montreal at the draft

No we shouldn't. Top pairing dmen with size scoring 35 points and playing 23 minutes game, and a 22 years old former 4th overall power forward capable of putting 40+ points, plus a 2nd round pick. You pull the trigger.

A complete rebuild is necessary. The way this team is built will never win anything.

1st year of official rebuild
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>Yes, I did. The term "rebuild" doesn't mean you have to go a year without showing any benefit from the trade.
"Rebuild" means replacing older players with younger ones. Here, you're replacing a valuable player with a pick that may never turn out, a player who may never return to North America, a guy who belongs in the AHL on the downside of his not-very-notable career, and a guy who isn't even signed into the system. It's possible you will have traded Tatar for four stiffs who may never play a minute for the Canadiens or, indeed, ever set skate on the ice for any NHL team.</div></div>
That's why you sign UFAs stop gap and tank next year. Montreal isn't winning with this team. Time for changes.

Why trying to make the playoffs is a stupid
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BCAPP</b></div><div>I am neither a Habs not an Oilers fan.
But more importantly, the way the franchise drafted over 10 years ago has essentially zero relevance to how it drafts today. Who in the management group are still around to lead it in similar ways?
Also if you can't see the value difference between a 16th and 6th overall draft pick I don't know what to tell you
Finally if you aren't competing in the next two years, you need to decide what to do about price and Weber as those contracts are going to be boat anchors soon.</div></div>
The entire Montreal organization is in need of an overhaul. Change almost everything and everyone from top to bottom. Get the best people in place.

We need a guy like Emelin teams fear and right now we dont have that .
a Kyle Clifford , Ryan Reaves or Antoine Roussell would go a long way towards helping us fix that and would only cost from a 5th to a 3rd at most (maybe a prospect a team plans on not offering a contract to like Hudon or Mccarron )</div></div>
I do agree that we need toughness and size. But drafting a guy like Tkachuk, Draisaitl, Dubois, Laine, MacKinnon and even Zadorov is what will make us win.
Montreal as enough bottom 6 forwards. They need players with skilled, good hockey IQ, speed and size. And you draft those usually in the top 5.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MisstheWhalers</b></div><div>Montreal would be crazy to give up on this season and try to tank, they're only 5 points behind Florida and with the injuries and lack of quality depth the Sabres have they're likely gonna start to sink like a stone in the standings so it'll be a three team battle between the Florida teams and the Habs for the final two playoff spots in the Atlantic, the Canadians are in no way out of this race but they gotta start winning some games.
The Habs are flush with prospects and emerging young players at every position so if anything they could afford to part with some to add some pieces for a playoff push.</div></div>
Montreal doesn't have enough high end prospects and the prospects they do have are still 2 to 3 years from making an impact if they do. By this time Price and Weber are past their mid 30's. Now and next year is the time to turn this franchise around.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Billy739</b></div><div>Why trying to tank is Stupid :
In 19 Drafts this millenium ARZ has been bottom 3 in the league for atleast 8/10 .
In 19 Drafts they've yet to get a 1st or a 2nd OA pick and only drafted top 5 a total of 3 times .
So the question becomes do you want to piss off MTL ticket holders by tanking just to go from a 9th-15th pick to a 3th to 8th.
MTL's drafted 3rd overall twice by finishing 3rd worst in the league but we havent sniffed a 1st overall since 1980 .
MTL hasnt gotten a 2nd OA pick since 1968 and 1969 accounting for the only 2 in MTL Canadiens history .
The odds of winning a 1st OA in MTL are 100 to 1
The odds of winning a 1st OA when its a French Generational star that hasnt been seen in 30 years are 10,000 to 1
P.s if we wanted Hague we would have taken him in the first round instead of Poehling .
Despite needing LD after just trading Sergachev for Drouin a week before this draft we still passed on Hague .
he'll be good a good #4-5 D like Beauchermin he'll always have a job as long as he wants to play(but MTL doesnt need that as we have a kid who out hit Emelin in Romanov a reigning KHL champ to boot)</div></div>
Tickets holders are already pissed off and it shows in the attendance at the games as less people show up to watch the team.
Tanking and selling vets for the next 2 seasons could do wonder for this team, especially having multiple 1st round pick this year with the draft being in Montreal. Drafting between around 15th every year and/or having multiple 5th round picks isnt going to make the team better
Everyone knows this team isn't winning anything with Weber, Price and Petry turning 35, 33 and 33 next season.
Montreal needs to tank and sell.

Tatar with retention has very value.
Petry should also be traded this year.
Gallagher, Byron and Armia next season.
Aim to start competing in 3 to 4 years if lucky.
Montreal is not going to win the cup with this core and/r anytime soon unfortunately.

Tatar salary is 5.3mil, but his cap hit is 4.8mil. Montreal could retain 2.165mil making it 50% of is 5.3mil salary.
