Selling at the deadline
I like this EDM deal... MB and TT probably watched Samo play a lot last year in the OHL playoffs while looking at Suzuki with Guelph. I dont know if VEG would make this deal though... Hague looked great so far and is a dmen... Which is what VEG need. Maybe a deal centered around Krebs could make it. A la Pacioretty trade maybe

Why trying to make the playoffs is a stupid
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Billy739</b></div><div>Why trying to tank is Stupid :
In 19 Drafts this millenium ARZ has been bottom 3 in the league for atleast 8/10 .
In 19 Drafts they've yet to get a 1st or a 2nd OA pick and only drafted top 5 a total of 3 times .
So the question becomes do you want to piss off MTL ticket holders by tanking just to go from a 9th-15th pick to a 3th to 8th.
MTL's drafted 3rd overall twice by finishing 3rd worst in the league but we havent sniffed a 1st overall since 1980 .
MTL hasnt gotten a 2nd OA pick since 1968 and 1969 accounting for the only 2 in MTL Canadiens history .
The odds of winning a 1st OA in MTL are 100 to 1
The odds of winning a 1st OA when its a French Generational star that hasnt been seen in 30 years are 10,000 to 1
P.s if we wanted Hague we would have taken him in the first round instead of Poehling .
Despite needing LD after just trading Sergachev for Drouin a week before this draft we still passed on Hague .
he'll be good a good #4-5 D like Beauchermin he'll always have a job as long as he wants to play(but MTL doesnt need that as we have a kid who out hit Emelin in Romanov a reigning KHL champ to boot)</div></div>
The "we should keep trying to win even though this team isnt good enough" to not piss off fans is so stupid. If you're team can't win now, put a good plan in place to create a winner in the future. Don't pull all the stops to be 15th in the league.
It was idiocy like that, that stopped the Jays from trading Donaldson for top prospects (one that was offered won the rookie of the year the next year) and held on to until he had no value.

2019-2020 trade deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>d4rk1ll4</b></div><div>Do you think Brook is ready for top 4?</div></div>
I mean, right now obviously no but after 60 games in th AHL who knows? I'd personally stick with Juulsen on the 2nd line (If healthy he'll surprise a lot of people) and put Brooks on the third to start his career. Sure thing Juulsen isn't as good now that Petry is but if we're already out of playoff race (Or Juulsen is playing a career year proving that he's ready) who cares? Play the young guys and let's roll the dice. You may be weaker for the reminder of the season on the right side but you get more chips for trade talks, draft two top prospects or even for moving up in the draft and get the guy you'd really want.

2019-2020 trade deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheRudeRune</b></div><div>Fair point.</div></div>
Everyone loves Petry in Montreal. He's showing skilled highlights (That puck batted in the air looked too easy for him) and is a great presence in the team. He's a great skating defenseman, watch carefully clips when he pitch to create an odd man rush and check his first 3 strides how powerfull and smooth they are. He'll be 33 for his next contract talks and I don't think that we should keep two aging dmans when so much is coming in that pool.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>d4rk1ll4</b></div><div>It's simple: Brook, Fleury and Juulsen will soon be NHLready. But you're right : He's solid. I think MTL should trade him next summer instead. Also, I don't think this trade would happen because RD is not a FLO need. MTL will eventually find a team with a weakness at the RD and I would be disappointed if MTL doesn't get a 1st pick.</div></div>
I think if it happens it's this year TDL, that's when you'll get full value because the other team would have him for two playoff run.

Why ? 3 second round picks a LD prospect and a premier underacheived prospects plus a couple of veteran for Peca, Agostino and Tatar . All this for bad contracts and money that Bergevin won't spend anyway.

Spooner brings much needed skills for Laval.
It's a risky trade that dont cost Montreal too much.</div></div>
I took some of your ideas to complete another Gm team and it is starting to make good sense.

Montreal gets 2 second round picks, LD B-prospect and a underacheived Level A prospect in Puljujarvi. Puljujarvi could improve with Laval and with Finland teamates .
Tatar is a underacheiver in the playoffs and Lucic could improve Montreal 4th line.
This is a risky trade and cap space demanding but could generate interesting deepnest for Montreal on a long term.
From a Edmonton point of view, this would give them cap space to move forward without sacrificing short term assets.

Sandin will never move.
A puck moving Dman with a cheap rookie contract for 2 more years.
That's is EXACTLY what Toronto needs. Next.
Look more @ Anaheim or Minesota; teams stuck against the cap and deep on defense.
Philly and Carolina got trading chips too.

Petry is worth exactly half of that. Zaitsev and a 1st for Petry would likely be approved by TO, but there is 0% chance you get Sandin. Dubas is on record today saying they don't plan on being big spenders at the deadline yet. They want to build a sustained winner and move high value cheap assets is the exact opposite way to do that.

Rebuilding while making the playoffs
I like the Leafs trade as a habs fan, but if that trade actually went through, Leafs would probably win the cup and as a Habs fan, I wouldn't want that. It's a hard one for me.
Sportsnet reported that Benn could fetch up to a 2nd round pick (Currently worth about a 3rd in the market), not sure if Tuulola is worth 2 rounds less of a pick. So Habs decline.
Habs accept 3rd trade no doubt depending on what the protection clause is, if it's a guaranteed 1st round pick then deal.

Shaw>Greer (and i like Greer)
Petry > every piece in that package (BUF is one of the top teams likely to make the playoffs in the east so their pick isnt even worth a Tatar as VGK showed last year )
to many working pieces in the BUF trade it just makes 100% sense for BUF but is like BUF cornered MTL in a dark alley and had their way with us . . .
to me Hudon and a pick in the 5th or 6th round gets you Greer as at best he'll hit Hudons level but his complete 2 way ability will see him in the Paul Byron position (third line mostly but plays anywhere from 1st to 4th to add a spark )
Petry isnt worth moving unless its a top 20 pick and either a B level prospect and a 2nd or an A level prospect and a 3rd or 4th in the following draft . Given how many teams are about to be ravaged by the Seattle expansion draft making moves now especially for VGK who are exempt makes 100% sense as the knights can upgrade Mcnabb's to Petry's without any worry about a loss while MTL can get paid for taking a downgrade .

You are wrong. Our cup window is at least the length of Tavares' contract. We are nicely going to be able to afford Matthews plus Marner plus Nylander and once Rielly+Andersen+Kadri's contracts are up we are going to address the need from within. Joseph Woll is the future starter but we would resign Andersen for 2-3 more years after his deal is done, Rielly would be resigned and Kadri too. Also cap space by then would be like 12-15mils higher which should absorb their money smoothly. We are not going to be waiting but we would not be rushing anything..

Dallas isn't giving up 2 B-level prospects and a pick for a 9th defenseman (Benn), and yet another depth forward (Lindberg). Stars already have a full lineup of players, and these two players aren't better than the guys we currently have. This would really be a pointless trade for Dallas.

Not sure about those VGK prospects, but I initially see it as 2 2nds for Pacioretty which is very bad.
That Petry trade looks really good for Montreal (Would also be very good for Toronto)
I personally wouldn't do that Byron trade, I would rather get a 2nd opposed to a 3rd + Below average prospect
