<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Goldorak</b></div><div>Isn't Detroit in need to sign Larkin? They have just under 3mil to sign him and you think he will get more than Mantha.

You noticed Lucic going to Vancouver for Eriksson right?
So its Gallagher and Benn for Eriksson, Yamamoto, Samorukov, Marody, 2019 1st, 2019 3rd and 2019 6th.
If any one of those assets become as good as Gallagher, which is a high possibility, it's a win.</div></div>

You do know what LTIR is right? That will give them another 4M to play with. As for making space, Im all for it! But then move a player like Glendening for an asset back. That way, DET signs Larkin, doesn't lose draft picks and only loses Glendening whose a 4th line player anyway.

Swapping Lucic for Erickson isn't much better. You're basically only saving 1 year of 6M at the end. Nice, but still you're also assuming this is even possible. Both guys have NMC which make the odds of a trade like this very very small.

Yeah prospects are nice but Gallagher is a sure thing. How often do players drafted, score 30 goals in a year while being a catalyst for their team? Not very good odds. Marody and Samorukov are nice but there is more chance they don't become anything more than 3-4th liners then they do of matching Gallagher. So assume Gallagher would fetch a 1st and a prospect like Yamamoto in return, if sold by himself. Why would the Habs en-debt themselves by taking Lucic/Eriksson only to get two decent but not sure thing prospects and a pick back? They're also losing Benn at 50% which would itself return a draft pick at the TDL too... IMHO opinion, its not worth it. Habs are losing the best player in the deal and taking on all the financial risk. That's not how business works. At least not for those prospects. Puljujarvi on the other hand.....

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SammyT_51</b></div><div>That Toronto trade is HORRIBLE! You want 1st rounder and future top-4 D + 2 other assets for almost 31yr old aging D-man with 1 season above 28 points and baaad contract?</div></div>

I don't know why anyone who actually watches Petry thinks he has a bad contract? The guy has been worth every penny since joining the Habs. What Habs games are you watching? Do you associate all two way defensman who don't score a ton of points as bad contracts?

Hampus Lindholm hasn't broken 34 points yet in his career, is he on a bad contract? Orlov 33 points. Tyler Myers hasn't scored more than 37 points in his career except for his rookie season. All these guys are paid roughly the same amount and have put up sub 40 points seasons....... Petry at least managed 41 points last year and was Montreal best dman every night Weber was injured last year. You have to factor in that MTL has to overpay UFA's just like T.O does. Not all of us are as lucky as Florida with tax advantages. So yeah, maybe he should of got 5m- 5.2M but MTL needed to outmatch other teams to make it worth his while.

Petry has actually gotten better with age and skates like the wind still. "Aging" applies to every single player in the league. Technically Marleau is "aging" too and should be decrepit by now right?

Right now the odds are: Rasanen will never be more than a bottom pairing guy in the NHL. Timashov is a smallish winger. Odds are against him too. the 1st should be a late 1st since T.O is stacked and a 4th well its a 4th. Petry would come in and play top line minutes for you right now while this team is competing for a cup for 4.75M. How many top pairing non RFA RHD are making less than 4.75M right now? Petry scored 41 points with the Habs last year. Can you imagine if he was playing with TO this year???.....:flushed

EDIT: if there is a better offer for a better dman available, by all means take it but Petry is not a bad dman on a bad contract. Slightly overpaid due to CDN taxes sure but so are a lot of players in Canada and high taxed states in America.
