Proposed trade in the Athletic article
I wouldn't do it. I think Domi and Mete should be part of the youth movement we should be doing for the next 2 to 3 years. Players we should trade at the deadline this year are Tatar and Petry with retention for increased value and amount of suitors.
Tatat retained at 2.8mil and Juulsen for Puljujärvi, Samorukov and Edmonton 1st (top 10 protected) is where I would start.

Montreal needs to retain 2mil on Tatar to increase his value and amount of suitors. Tatar will easily go for a 1st, good prospect and 3rd round or B level prospect since he has 2 years left on his contract.

Please!!!!
You get a 25 goals, 60 points player for 2 seasons at 2.8 mil. Tatar is definitely worth a late first, Serron and a 3rd.

Look at what Muzzin fetched, 22OA and 2 players drafted in the 2 round, and Weber is at least 3 times the dmen Muzzin is.

Colorado's 1st will be 25th+
Zadorov is a second pairing dmen men (19TOI) with 5 points
Weber has 30 points and 24TOI.
Timmins level of play in the NHL is still uncertain.

Montreal need size for the playoffs, Lucic and Puljujärvi helps with it and Lucic might play better under Julien.
Samokurov could grow on a defensive pair with Romanov in the future.
Oilers 2 2nd rounds picks aren't bad
Spooner brings much needed skills for Laval.
It's a risky trade that dont cost Montreal too much.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Habs finished fourth last overall last season. How much additional tanking can they do especially with Weber out, no meaningful additions and Patches to be traded?</div></div>
If you tank you get as many assets as possible. Montreal as way too many wingers and they need to move at least 2 of them and play McCarron and DLR as much as possible.
The Habs need at least another 3 years of drafting in the top 5, at least top 10. They need high end talent, not depth.

Aren't Vancouver in win mode now? Isn't the reason Linden stepped down because the owners did not want a rebuild?

Trade with PHI and CAR
Brutal for Montreal.
Undrafted Myers only played 50 games in the AHL.
Myers, Vorobyov and a 1st is the minimum I would do for Petry and Benn.
Carolina will need to add a 1st in that package for Pacioretty.

Juulsen is not ready for top 4 minutes, he should start the year in Laval and called up when a dmen goes down. Lernout should be the regular bottom pairing RD until Weber comes back.
As for the Pacioretty deal, I doubt any teams trade one of their top 5 prospects for Pacioretty.

Something a little different
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>F50marco</b></div><div>Good try but a couple things to note:
Franzen goes directly to LTIR so its not like Detroit is scrambling to get him off their books and teams get insurance money for injured players so they only actually pay the player like 10-20% of their actual salary. So what Im getting at here is Detroit doesn't need to find a way to get Franzan off their team, especially at the cost of draft picks.
That Edmonton deal doesn't work for MTL. Gallagher alone could land a minimum of a 1st and a prospect. So take those pieces out of the deal and re evaluate. Lucic plus a couple decent but not great prospects for Benn at 50%? Its not worth the risk. Lucic's contract also has a NMC so It will be hard to find a team he would want to go to and make a trade with that team that works for both.</div></div>
Isn't Detroit in need to sign Larkin? They have just under 3mil to sign him and you think he will get more than Mantha.
You noticed Lucic going to Vancouver for Eriksson right?
So its Gallagher and Benn for Eriksson, Yamamoto, Samorukov, Marody, 2019 1st, 2019 3rd and 2019 6th.
If any one of those assets become as good as Gallagher, which is a high possibility, it's a win.

Pacioretty, Petry and Byron
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>F50marco</b></div><div>I don't know why anyone who actually watches Petry thinks he has a bad contract? The guy has been worth every penny since joining the Habs. What Habs games are you watching? Do you associate all two way defensman who don't score a ton of points as bad contracts?
Hampus Lindholm hasn't broken 34 points yet in his career, is he on a bad contract? Orlov 33 points. Tyler Myers hasn't scored more than 37 points in his career except for his rookie season. All these guys are paid roughly the same amount and have put up sub 40 points seasons....... Petry at least managed 41 points last year and was Montreal best dman every night Weber was injured last year. You have to factor in that MTL has to overpay UFA's just like T.O does. Not all of us are as lucky as Florida with tax advantages. So yeah, maybe he should of got 5m- 5.2M but MTL needed to outmatch other teams to make it worth his while.
Petry has actually gotten better with age and skates like the wind still. "Aging" applies to every single player in the league. Technically Marleau is "aging" too and should be decrepit by now right?
Right now the odds are: Rasanen will never be more than a bottom pairing guy in the NHL. Timashov is a smallish winger. Odds are against him too. the 1st should be a late 1st since T.O is stacked and a 4th well its a 4th. Petry would come in and play top line minutes for you right now while this team is competing for a cup for 4.75M. How many top pairing non RFA RHD are making less than 4.75M right now? Petry scored 41 points with the Habs last year. Can you imagine if he was playing with TO this year???.....:flushed</div></div>
It's too early to tell about Räsänen place in the line up. He's 6'7" 225 pounds 19 years old dmen, it will take time for him to develop, but it could end up big for us if he becomes top 4 dmen. Timashov could be a useful 4th liner player with some offense. The 1st is still a 1st. I just don't see too many offers that beats this.

Again! This deal was brought up and agreed by many Panthers fans. McGinn is a 4th line player, McCoshen a #6-7 dmen, the 1st will be a 20+ OA and Heponiemi for a 30+goal scorer that wants to play in Florida.

Mete and Juulsen would benefit playing a full season in the AHL under the new coaching staff and hopefully a winning environment. The Habs will suck this year, give Lernout a regular shift, PK time and some PP time with Weber out. Bieksa is there to provide leadership and toughness in the blue line for 1 season.
The Canadiens need to rank for at least another 2 years.
