So you're going to trade all that for maybe 1 more year of Jagr? That is awful.

Why?

Because he is one of your top 3 players and you are getting 1 year of Jagr?

The idea is to get offensive contribution out of a one year rental player in Jagr. This will allow for resigning Drouin, Palat or Johnson. He is just a rental. If Kuch signs, we cant sign Johnson or Palat. Kuch will be 6.5-7 M, Johhny and palat should come in at 5-5.5M. The Jagr deal is novelty , and I still believe he could contribute.

Ok we will take your 23/24 yr old star player. How about JVR?

JVR would extend my problem, I couldn't afford to resign him. He would put my other guys in hock. I understand where you're coming from. I need a decent rental and would then most likely have to develop a replacement .

Think of the players as assets since your playing at a businessman's job. You're trading a huge asset that is locked into an organization due to RFA status, for a 1 year 90 year old UFA.. Ergo low asset value. Yes he's a badass. Yes he can score. Yes he'd help this year. But also, yes he's a downgrade from Kuch, and yes he will likely be on a different team the next year. You don't lose Kuch for one year of diminished talent.

Get youth. Players on ELC contracts or prospects mixed with some ready now wing talent on good contracts.

I agree with that, one thing is for sure, Yzerman has a tough job locking up the core in Tampa. I'm not sure you can lock this core up... The Stamkos and Hedman deals really concreted that fact, then you got killer at 4.4 M, Vassy at 3.5 M, if it weren't for Cally and Filppula's rich contracts it may be doable.

And please believe me, I do not want to see Kuch go at all. His deal will just be richer than Johnson and Palat.
