2020 TDL

Created by: gregb569
Team: 2019-20 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 29, 2020
Published: Jan. 30, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
1.
PIT
  1. 2020 4th round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
TML finally get their competent backup goalie for the next 2 years on a cheap contract.
TOR
  1. DeSmith, Casey
Additional Details:
PIT sheds a bit of unnecessary cap & clears a logjam in the crease while grabbing a pick.
2.
PIT
  1. 2020 4th round pick (COL)
Additional Details:
COL gets a big depth C who may turn things around that's signed through next season and won't affect any of their big fish contracts.

4th turns into 3rd if COL advances to WCF
COL
  1. Bjugstad, Nick
Additional Details:
While I think it may be unfair to say Jugs doesn't fit in PIT, he is definitely expendable and not worth 4.2M for next year (played at a 29pt pace over 82gm since being traded here.)

IMO best course of action with him would be to just clear cap for next year and/or get a depth F back who's a UFA
3.
PIT
  1. Benson, Tyler
  2. 2021 4th round pick (EDM)
EDM
  1. Galchenyuk, Alex ($2,450,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Now Gally is a player who really just does not fit PIT at all. He definitely still has some value to a team like EDM who could use a guy who can play in their top 6.
4.
PIT
  1. Stephenson, Chandler
  2. 2020 3rd round pick (VGK)
  3. 2021 2nd round pick (NJD)
Additional Details:
VGK solidifies their D in hopes on a deep playoff push.
VGK
  1. Schultz, Justin ($2,750,000 retained)
Additional Details:
We've proven we can win without Schultzy and I hate to see him go based off what he's done in the past but we're not going to resign him. With the emergence of Marino this year I think it would help us more next year to get assets back for him rather than keep him for a playoff run and let him walk.
5.
PIT
  1. Glendening, Luke
Additional Details:
DET fans is a 4th enough?
DET
  1. 2020 4th round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
- Great faceoff man (area pens aren't the best in)
- Depth in case of injuries (we know they're coming)
- signed through next season and fits the age group
6.
MIN
  1. Björkqvist, Kasper
  2. Hållander, Filip
  3. Joseph, Pierre-Olivier
  4. 2020 1st round pick (PIT)
  5. 2021 2nd round pick (NJD)
  6. 2021 2nd round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
Would this be enough?

Basically 2 firsts (NJD) 2nd next year probably going to be 32-40 range and ours probably 20 onward
Conditional 2nd - if Pens win cup in 2020 MIN gets PIT 2021 first

JPO former 1st rounder
Hallander 2nd rounder and wild GMBG likes him
Bjorkqvist who GMBG loves

3 picks + 3 prospects?

1. dont trade desmith until both goalies are signed past this year.

2. ok value for Bjugstad.

3. Gally doesnt get both pick and player

4. dont need more bottom 6 forwards and with that retention should get at least 2 2nds and a 3rd. Shultz gets more.

5. is fair value but dont think Glendening fills a need as a 3rd line center.

6. an over pay on dumba the pens do not need another rd that much.

1 - we're signing both so don't see it as an issue (or at least I would/think we should)
2 - I agree
3 - You may be right but either way I'd do it for Benson or a 4th tbh
4 - NJ 2nd is practically a late first the way I see it, didn't want to ask for a 1st and theirs because "2" firsts for him is too much.
5 - I think Pens personally need a good faceoff man come playoff time because its uber important, while I agree Glendening should be on the 4th line I think we could move around the lines to accommodate that
6 - I thought slight overpay as well but he would solidify our D core as one of the absolute best in terms of money & talent for the next 4 years

thanks for the response tho!

1. is a salary cap pens have a ton of rfa to sign

2.ok

3.ya gall has little value

4. with vrgas better off getting both there 2nds this year an a 3rd this year with a conditional pick in 2021 if he resigns.

5. a good face off man is a need yes but needs to be one that can be a regular 3rd line center not an in between guy.

6. Dumba has been very inconsistent this year and our d doesnt need him an ok 3rd pairing right d would do and save money.

1. having multiple talented goalies is a good things. Desmith could get more than a 4th and you never are sure of Murray's health. Need to get much more than a 4th to move him. And it isn't a given both goalies will be resigned. That is based on contract demands of Murray.

2. If that's the value of Bjugstad I'd rather see if he could be a solid 3rd line center

3. Gally is likely good as gone but every team knows that. Benson has 66 points in 68 AHL games. Not sure EDM would trade a prospect like that for a gamble on Gally. But the Pens would take it.

4. I'm not against trading Schultz but you could do better than that. A top 4 RH puck moving Dman is gonna get more than a border line NHL forward and a 2nd and 3rd. Also Vegas needs to shed salary to take on Schultz's contract. Cody Eakin and a mid round pick would be a decent return and he would be a good 3rd line center replacement if Bjugstad gets moved.

5. I like Glendening. Pens could improve on Faceoffs and don't have a good RH faceoff guy.

6. Dumba has potential but the Pens don't need him. He makes 6 mil for the next 3 years and is known for inconsistent and bad decision making. With Marino Clearly proving he is a top 4 Def why pay an arm and a leg for Dumba who is having a far worse season. Is smaller, riskier, and a cap killer.

Overall these are just bad besides Glendening helping on faceoffs. There is no upgrade at wing. In fact wing depth is worse. Dumba isn't much of an upgrade over Schultz if at all. That 3rd line is not good at all.

1 - if Desmith gets more than a 4th i'd be surprised tbh
2 - Jugs isnt worth what he makes and would rather get rid of a soft 6'6 C who we can spend his money on an upgrade
3 - I'd do Gally for benson straight up or for a 4th, i think his value espeically retained isnt as low as some people make it out to be..
4 - stephenson is a great depth F who's versatile and we're geting a 2nd which is basically a 1st from NJ and a 3rd from VGK, i admit i should've gotten a 2nd from vegas as well so Stephenson and 2 2nds
5 - glad we agree smile
6 - Looking at it now yeah we don't need Dumba
