Description
I don't think the Rangers give Strome term, and honestly, I think there is a decent chance he goes to arbitration. 2 years and $4.5m seems like a good middle-ground for a prove-it deal, after which I suspect he will be moved. I was not sure what to do with DeAngelo. Personally, I think it would be smart to move him in exchange for a bonafide top 4 LHD, but I wasn't sure who to move for. Given the minutes he plays, I think the contract is fair. If he plays at all on the left side this season and does well then I think he sticks around, but the arrival of Nils Lundkvist makes him relatively expendable. I do not think people realize how bad that Wisconsin team has been/how much better Miller has been than other defenders on the team. He defends zone entries at an elite level and is a monster in transition, I think he's in the NHL next season. As for Barron, he isn't a lock to make the team by any measure but he plays a very translatable style that Quinn will like, I could see him winning a spot.

I bought out Staal because the Rangers have a lot of options who are around 20-23 and they ca not be blocked for the sake of being sentimental for any longer. Also the Rangers might need a couple million in cap savings.

The hardest decision was the goalies. Unless the Rangers get a great offer for him, it makes more sense to bridge Georgiev and have him get 35 or so games behind Shestyorkin. Unfortunately, that means moving Henrik, who has already said he will discuss his future with management in the offseason. Colorado makes sense because as good as Grubauer is, he has not been available enough to create the consistency contending teams need. Obviously Henrik would play back-up there, but he would get more than enough playing time on a team that is firmly a cup contender. The 3rd rounder in exchange was fairly arbitrary. If Henrik and management agreed on him leaving I am sure the price would be minimal.

When you make the trades, if you click on the little plus sign by the players name, you can add retained salary. Also don’t see both Nils and Miller here next season. Miller might play 1 more year in college.

I don't know why but it wasn't putting the correct amount when I tried to retain half

Yeah I know, I don't know why but it wasn't putting the correct amount when I tried to retain half. I could certainly see Miller staying for another year, but I think he will sign and likely spend some time in the AHL, then get a promotion. Our left side is weak. Like I said, his defending is 100% NHL level, as is his transition game. I think Lundkvist will be here next year, he wouldn't get anything out of another year in the SHL and he would be too good for the AHL.

Solid solid team. Would love if they get Tony on those terms and the Strome bridge deal looks great.

If Miller - Lundkvist is the next Lindgren - Fox line we are so in the money. I do think they have Nils warm up to American hockey, but we will see.

I agree with most of what you have written and done. For $2mm more, I would keep Staal around. Quinn likes and trusts him plus he can fill when someone gets hurt or if the young guys struggle for a bit. I think you can trade Smith post July 1 to unload salary cap - instead of buying him.

I 10000% would keep Staal for his final season. He’s not amazing but is playing well enough. Next season definitely a serviceable 3D.
