I'd be shocked if Edmonton sold Nugent-Hopkins for that little. He'll be coming off his best or second-best year, and Edmonton has Klefbom, Nurse, Jones and Broberg on that side so the Oilers really wouldn't be interested in Pilut except as a throw-in.

You are severely underestimating the value of Nugent-Hopkins. And you're over the cap with 2 roster spots empty.

To me, that's closer to a trade for Kris Russell than Nugent-Hopkins.

Yup. Leafs could get more for Kap, too. This is a lot of wishful thinking, IMO.

I think that your best bet in the off-season is to sign free agent Erik Haula as your #2C, to move down when Dylan Cozens or Casey Mittelstadt is ready to take over that position.

hell i wouldnt mind if we could somehow get Eric Staal from Minnesota for a 2nd line C... would also help with experience hes seen just about everything and won to show for it
