You're going to trade away a top-4 defenseman and a semi-decent, not entirely worthless backup goalie for a fourth-line center? You'd do better signing Derek Grant for twice what he's worth and keeping Montour.

Lowry is better than you're giving him credit for. He'd be like adding another Larsson to our lineup, which we could certainly use.

And Hutton has negative value. We should be actively trying to shed his cap for next season.

I think it's a pretty fair deal tbh. Just because Botterill paid through the nose for Montour doesn't mean he has a lot of value. Nor do I want to pay him for next season. Using him to get rid of Hutton's deal and add another bottom-six two-way center would be a smart move.

To get good players to come to Buffalo you have to overpay them. Why else would they come here?

You don't need cap relief if you don't sign bad contracts. I don't see one good player signed coming to Buffalo
