Bracco's issues aside, I don't hate this deal. Gardiner isn't working out in Car and Pesce is exactly what Tor needs. The only problem is Car will need defensemen after this so you might need to swap prospects from Tor's side. Might I suggest Mac Hollowell?

Gardiner is only in this trade to make it fit within the cap. He has not played well in CAR so it makes sense that they would trade him. If the Leafs don't make the playoffs then a Marner trade is 100% possible. Out of the big four forwards he makes the most sense to deal out. Matthews and JT are not going anywhere and Nylander has less value and you clear more cap when trading Marner.
