Leafs in 2020-2021 Season My take on it

Created by: aadoyle
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 26, 2020

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
So with this roster I combined some trades to reduce our cap and replace the players with either picks or needed pieces. However like my previous post made it where Dubas looked at foreign markets to add to our defense and goaltending for the future. With the cap not moving the important thing was finding low cost but good players.

For starters traded kerfoot and dermott to florida for weegar and wallmark. overall a pretty fair trade. Would love to keep dermott but what toronto needs is a true RD and Weegar fits that role. Wallmark is just a replacement for Kerfoot and can be signed for cheaper.

The 2nd trade is more of a cap dump. However Dallas gets 2 young players which they may utilize on their roster and who have tonnes of potential

Finally to save some money in the future Dubas goes to the SHL and signs Johannes Kinnvall who has had an amazing year in the SHL and could be an excellent partner for sandin. If he does not work out he can be sent to the marlies and liligren can come up.

For goaltending I had Dubas go to the KHL and sign Timur Bilyov. Now it may be risky but many NHL teams have aquired russian or other foreign goalies and it has worked out for them. Anderson could ask for 8mill + on his next contract which will put the leafs in more cap troubles. Having Bilyov makes it where we can let Anderson walk and have a suitable replacement starting goaltender. Plus if Bilyov can have similar numbers to his KHL days nobody will regret losing anderson. So if signed i expect to see him with the marlies and maybe like shesterkin they call him up to see what hes got in the NHL

Also signed Clifford (hes rumored to be coming back so bye 2nd pick), Thorton, and Spezza to add some veteran presence to this young team.

So let me know what u think. Also signed some reserve guys who are doing well and are old enough to play with the marlies

I think the value is there in the Florida deal, but at this time, I don't see the Cats moving Walmark. I think they work at resigning Haula, which makes Walmark a good 3rd line fit for them. If they fail to sign Haula, then you maybe get it done, as at this time Kerfoot is an upgrade an Walmark. I will not neither Brogstrom nor Hepionemi (spelling) is ready to step into a 2nd line role.

If moving Johnsson, I would be trying to fill out the blueline depth organizationally. Think along the lines of the Jueovi's and Juulsen's of the league. Dman you can send up and down, but could fill in at the NHL level well enough, and have a future in the league...... as this was an issue that was more than highlighted this season.

Overall, love the thought process. Team is far more balanced without completely subtracting from the top 9.

The main thing with Florida is ownership and management are not happy with the team so there could be some big moves made in the summer as the team needs to shed 10m according to ownerships orders

That's true. Flip side if that is the case, the deal financially for both teams is a wash.

Like I said the value is there. Maybe something the entertain to mix it up? The Cats arr hard to figure out. Lack of direction.

the cats are such a mess rn that huberdeau and ekblad could get traded and thats scary. Management might say well its rebuild time again. Sad thing is I would love to have ekblad in toronto or huberdeau but that would mean nylander or marner or both would be gone

This would not make the Leafs much better. Why would Florida do this? They are on the verge of making the playoffs, they are not in 'such a mess.'

Joe Thornton? Just no. no, no and no. Old, slow and not even a shadow of his former self. He isn't even on the top PP line for the sharks and that is when he is most dangerous in his career (1/3 of his points total come form PP points). He didn't even hit %50 for faceoffs against lower competition, why would we want him?

And Kinnvall just signs and starts? What a rough and tumble 3rd d pairing. Two skilled Swedes that avoid contact and have limited experience playing against men.

Wait! Was this actually a joke post??? Good troll!

Thorton would be on the 4th line and in toronto that line is barely on so he would do fine especially with spezza and clifford. As for the pp he would go on the second unit which again barely gets any time as the first unit often gets 90% of the time. As for the panthers they need to shed 10 mill of their cap as management at this point is sick of there performance. Tallon blew tons of Viola money and got no where. Second of all for the eleven years that he been there, there is no depth at all in the organization. <-- That taken from a season ticket holder of the panthers not my word

U have a time machine have u seen the future, no, then dont post this kind of comments lul. Your new so i will cut u some slack but next time be respectful and dont post this trolling comments. Kinvall would fit well with the leafs especially on that contract. If he doesnt work out he goes to the marlies and liligren comes up. With a team needing to save money its a win win for both sides
