Description

STL needs cap space to re-sign Pietrangelo. Dunn also needs a new contract. Allen put up a GSAx of 7.03 last year in a back up role, good for 8th in the NHL. For reference, Carey Price had a -11.04 last season.

Other good candidates for a back up are Khudobin (6.15) and Crawford (7.44), however both are aging UFA's that will likely be seeking two year deals so there is extra risk with them. If Allen doesn't work out, habs can just cut ties after this season, however if he does repeat his performance from this year then the habs can negotiate another deal and finally get a reliable goaltending tandem.

Nah I dont think so. This trade is about getting $3.6M in cap space, not about getting assets.

Yep, I think recent events and the fact that there’s a ton of ufa goalies has killed his value. Still think the Blues could maybe get a mid-round pick plus a prospect if a team gets desperate.

He had a really encouraging year as a backup, however if you look at his GSAx over the past two years it brings it down to -3.

Exactly like you said, there is going to be Lehner and Holtby for starters, then Khudobin and Crawford are othe good options for backups. Then theres the other guys, there are a lot of options so teams don't need to take on $4.35M and give up assets.

I would probably throw in a conditional draft pick based on Allen re-signing, say a 2022 3rd round pick if Allen re-signs with MTL.

I think if the Blues eat maybe a million of that $4.35 million cap hit then they could probably get a pick instead of Lindgren, right? Like at least a 4th?

I think Kovalchuk is signed for a little too much: Maybe 1.5-2 + a massive bonus structure?

I didn't understand performance bonuses until now, very good point. MTL can only exceed the cap by $6M in performance bonuses Suzuki, KK could potentially earn $3M. I imagine romanov will also have performance bonuses of some sort. I wonder how much Kovy would get.
