You need to trade one of Johnsson/Kerfoot/Kapanen, sign Spezza to 800K deal to play on the 4th line and allocate the remaining money to Mikheyev and Dermott to make the team work out

That's if he signs the qualifying offer. And he'd still be an rfa anyways.
He has no arb rights or anything.
It would be basically a bridge deal
If he plays well then he earns his contract.

A qualifying offer would be 10% above his contract contract.

Yeah I actually signed him for 5000 more then what the offer would be. It would be around 875000 would be the qualifying offer.

Isn't it 10% about his current 863,000 salary?

Not sure. But the calculator on this site said it was 875000.
Also I think dreger or Mackenzie said the same.

A team can offer whatever they want the player needs to sign it. Hes an RFA with no arbitration rights. The leafs will qualify him and then it's up to him to sign. He might want to sign like johnnson did so he can try to play a full season have a break out year and then really earn long term deal

Yea, exactly. So, he'd be getting at least $2M.
