Toronto Maple Leafs 2020-2021 - Robertson Makes the team
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Barilko14</b></div><div>I'm hopeful for the kid, but he's like 5 days away from being eligible for this 2020 draft. He only turns 19 on Sep. 11. If he was in this draft and taken 10th OV hypothetically, how many 5'9 165lb 10th OV players make the NHL out of the draft?
Your Debrincat example. He was 3 months away from turning 20 in Sept 2017 the year that he made the NHL.
When you are talking about 19 yo that 8/9 months makes a pretty big difference, especially when you are talking about players that are not 100% physically mature.
Additionally, until some moves are made, it's not like it will be easy for him to steal someone's job next season. Nylander is on record now preferring LW, Hyman, AJ (he'll be healthy in Sep), Mikheyev, Engvall even Agostino is a LW option as he was the Marlies best player the last few months of the season. No guarantee Robertson would be more effective then any of these guys next season.</div></div>
I guess we'll have to wait and see

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aadoyle</b></div><div>Robertson aint ready for the NHL he is probably going to Liga for 2020. Also for 2 years to expensive for Mikeyv (1.5-1.85 would be what Dubas would probs pay). And Johnsson will be back in september so Dubas probs moves him at the draft.</div></div>
Read the title: "Robertson makes the team" - I appreciate you looking into your crystal ball though

Wouldn't be hard to improve the team in the offseason if they do that?

Steen trade was to get over cap floor.
If they didn't CBO Ryan when given the opportunity, they'd look more dumb than they already are. That's currently very hard to do.

Stall, Smith and Lundqvist contracts total roughly $18Mil.
Current roles on the team respectively: Bottom pairing Defenceman, AHL defenceman, 3rd string goalie.
How are you getting rid of these contracts without giving up picks?

<a href="/users/yanp007" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@yanp007</a> I used Shultz instead of Brodie here as I realized he had a stroke and they will most likely get similar contracts. Tough decision was moving out Domi but you can make everything work. Hard to base some salaries without knowing what happens in the previous season.

Kerfoot is better defensively, of course, they have Tavares and Matthews in front of him...
And Wallmark was .37 in Pts/GP, Kerfoot .43 so the gap wasn't as big as you believe</div></div>
Kerfoot played with Tavares half the year so, his ppg would be inflated compared to Wallmark.
And a players defensive play doesn't change on who's based on there team lol

You're going to have to watch the games. Kerfoot is better for the leafs defensively as 3C than offensive. If you're saying Walmark is worse offensively that'd be a huge L for the Leafs.

You need to trade one of Johnsson/Kerfoot/Kapanen, sign Spezza to 800K deal to play on the 4th line and allocate the remaining money to Mikheyev and Dermott to make the team work out

But any where under the microscope like Toronto zero chance, timing and bad advice got him to this point without getting paid. I’m not sure if it would have been that simple of announcing retirement and still collecting, with suspension and delaying his decision.</div></div>
Only thing is ... no one really knows. Not you or me. Unless you've been fishing with him in Florida or Minni lol
So, there's a small chance thats why I made the team.

This is the exact pitch the leafs would give him. Come play 40 game in the regular season to stay fit and have one last chance at a cup. He would've retired instead of settled for a terminated contracts if he was done playing. And like you said, he's made enough money.

Promise to load management him like Kawhi for a year lol
Lets him get his feet back playing around 50 games then get his money on a 2 year deal the next offseason. He might miss out on around 4M but it gives him a huge opportunity to win the cup. However, in hindsight he could do this on a few other teams.
Knowing Boston, he'd probably end up playing there for free if it was possible lol
