Offensively, Kerfoot is better. Defensively, Wallmark. Just depends which guy you need more for your team.

And you know that's what a Florida trade would look like because of all your inside connections?

Kerfoot's actually as good, if not better, than Wallmark defensively.

But you didn't mention the difference in cap hits. Not sure what Wallmark will get on his next deal, but if rostering Wallmark instead of Kerfoot allows the Leafs to use a 23-man roster with proven depth options instead of LTIR loopholes, OHL stars, and KHL scrubs (heh), then wouldn't that trade make them better?

We can laugh at the Barclay Goodrow trade, and to an extent, the Coleman trade was an overpay too, but you have to consider the importance of cheap depth to GMs of top-heavy teams. IMO Dubas conceded having a regular 3rd line construction (3-4m cap hit per player) when he gave all the money to their top guys. He would be smart to re-load the 3rd line with cheap options each year.

What is the point of doing that though? Are we gonna have a bad 3rd line centre? He is not good and is more of a 4th liner. Leafs don't need him. Kerfoot is much better.
Wallmark may get like 700k less there is no point

Tbh when I originally posted I thought 675k was Wallmark's AAV for next season too... but the general point still stands: there is so much money tied up in the star players that trading guys like Kerfoot, Johnsson, and Kapanen for worse-but-cheaper players might have to happen, especially when the cap isn't rising. You did it to Johnsson in this mock, why would trading Kerfoot be so crazy? And yes, I'm saying you might have to have a bad 3C since your 1Ca and 1Cb make over 11 million apiece.

You're going to have to watch the games. Kerfoot is better for the leafs defensively as 3C than offensive. If you're saying Walmark is worse offensively that'd be a huge L for the Leafs.

Okay, the eye test. Lol

Kerfoot is better defensively, of course, they have Tavares and Matthews in front of him...

And Wallmark was .37 in Pts/GP, Kerfoot .43 so the gap wasn't as big as you believe

Kerfoot played with Tavares half the year so, his ppg would be inflated compared to Wallmark.

And a players defensive play doesn't change on who's based on there team lol

Not gonna lie. Kerfoot did get most of his points when he was playing wih jt and marner. He played with them for a quarter of the season and was better
