People are obviously going to melt down but this is what Toronto needs for what they can afford to lose. It's not perfect because there is no perfect deal. I don't feel like anyone is getting fleeced though. Liljgren could be Dermott instead but that would depend on Dermott's next contract request.

Toronto says no, we don't really need Manson/Montour, so both is overkill.

If you can explain why you don't need solid plus defensive right defensemen, I'll retract. Frankly I can't imagine you needing anything more.

Hello reel

Thanks for sharing. I agree on most of your comment, you seem to have a good hockey sense. I can’t see how this deal can work. Toronto will send too many good quality assets. I agree 1 st rnd it’s good but marner... however it’s a good start I don’t think they need to include Buf. As i said in previous post maybe Mtl will be a better partner to send Marner and get more asset in return

The problem is the pieces Montreal has don't fit with Toronto's needs and vice versa. Asking for more is fine in general but more if it isn't what you need doesn't mean much and Marner is not Mitch Marner. it's Mitch Marner with an 11 mil tab. Once you sign a guy to a huge number (see Price, or Luongo with Van for example) You start to have to be realistic. This gets the player that will be going of their big contracts out, to a place he makes sense (which isn't Montreal, they don't need more small skill forwards). Doesn't cost them picks that they don't really have, gets out the excess other pieces they have and gets them back the RD's they need. A first to fix the Marleau trade and Silferberg whose a stud just kinda round it out. I think the only players Toronto should be looking at to start a deal for marner are top affordable defensive right D Men. Two of them are in this trade, the other is David Savard. CBJ is too close to Toronto these days and wont want to boost a contender while picking up the scraps of the deal. I still haven't seen an argument I like against this deal.

Sabres get absolutely nothing in return. We don’t make that trade

Liljegren is a significantly better prospect now than Middlestadt. Johnsson is locked into term and Montour is not. So If it's not enough then fine, but calling it nothing is ridiculous.
