Terrible trade for Edmonton!

Fayne is better than Girardi

From a Rangers perspective, that would be a dream scenario.

GIrardi basically guarantees the Oilers finish last, glad you aren't GM, dumbest deal in history. Even a 5th round pick for Girardi and NYR first is a bad deal, Reinhart who although is busting hard, still has more potential and will do better than Girardi for the later years.

As a NYR fan, I would do this deal in a heartbeat

Girardi had one bad season, Edmonton has been bad for like 3 decades.... as bad as everyone says Girardi is ... nothing is worse than what they call a hockey organization in Edmonton. Terrible team every year, #1 pick after #1 pick..... stupid signings horrible trades....
And they still can't even sniff the postseason. 1990 was a quarter century ago....

Edmonton fans should get to bang on a warrior 10 year vet, been in playoffs, conference finals and Cup Final.....?

3 decades ago edmonton was still winning cups while your team was çrap. The Rangers actually needed half of the Oiler's roster to turn that pile of çrap around.

Girardi is a great teammate and a great guy...nobody's denying that. As an affordable 3rd pairing veteran, he'd be a fine addition to most locker rooms. The issue is more financial. That contract pays him like a top pairing defenseman and hes not that any more. Think that's why people were getting on the deal.

That said, his salary is actually significantly lower than his cap hit after next year, and if he rebounds a bit, he could have some value to low budget teams.

Of course I don't deny that he's a fantastic human being, but a terrible player right now. If he was making $600,000K a year, I'd gladly have him on the third line instead of Fayne as Girardi provides leadership.
