No way Goodrow sits. He's paid what he is for playoff hockey.

Still. Beating. That. Drum. :D
Based on what happened with Michael Sauer's career, I think we should just be praying for Chytil's health at the moment before annointing him the 1C.

You could get the 2nd and still take your chances on resigning him as a UFA, while giving him a shot at a cup.

I unserstand his position, but why wouldn't Tarasenko test FA? For the money he wants, can Ottawa afford him longer term? Wouldn't they be better off taking what they can (likely a 2nd and maybe a player) than obstinately holding out for a 1st and potentially losing him in FA for nothing?

Drop the best return for this package
Figured...think Chytil, Schneider, and Kakko fall in a similar category for NYR. I don't know that Rangers could acquire Chychrun and Tarasenko straight-up without giving up at least one of those players to even out the money. If Chytil's involved they'd likely either want Greig or Pinto involved for 3C. That's where it gets complicated, and breaks down. Also, not sure Goodrow would waive for the Sens.

Hard to figure out money...expanded to blockbuster for fun to make money work. Not sure how either side would feel on value:
Chytil, Schneider, Kakko, Goodrow, 2024 1st
for
Chychrun, Pinto, Tarasenko ($2M), Joseph, conditional 2025 3rd on Chytil games played.

Moving Chyc at the TDL
Not opposed for Rangers in theory, but concerned about resigning Chycrun the following year when Shesty, Miller, Laf, and Cuylle also need to get paid. Someone would likely need to get moved later if they did that deal now.

Blockbuster with Colorado
Trocheck brings grit, skill, leadership, is good defensively, wins face-offs, has developed rapport with Panarin and Laf, greets each player off the ice at the end of each period, and has Cuylle living at his house learning how to be a pro. I'd be shocked and disappointed if they moved him, as he's earned his money and appears to be very much at the heart of NYR team chemistry.

Laf looks more comfortable on wing with Chytil and Panarin. Had a great finish on setup from Panarin this week...hopefully he can keep growing as they get used to Lav's system and new linemates.
In this deal, you're basically replacing Laf with Monahan, and removing Goodrow from the lineup. You're also putting NYR in position of trading Jones, or risk losing him on the waiver wire, and letting Xhekaj, Gustafsson, and Schneider battle it out for 2 spots in the lineup. I don't think this moves the needle at all for Rangers, and probably makes them worse in the short and long-term.

Aiming for a Cup in a few years
Mika is not your problem. He's better defensively, has a better shot (slapper from the circle is deadly), is a better passer, is more physical, can actually take faceoffs, and knows how to skate up ice without getting his head taken off, avoiding injury. I love Chytil's potential and tools and believe he will continue improving (he's maybe more like a young Mika before we acquired him), but your eyes are deceiving you if you think Chytil is better than Mika, or is in any way poised to be anywhere near the leader Zib is now in the next 4 years.

I'm hopeful Quick will come around a bit after some adjustment. Halak started out shaky also, but sorted it out throught the year as he got more comfortable.

Agreed, could slide Trocheck or Chytil to the wing, and have Pinto jump into 3C, but i dunno that NYR can help them enough with cap space.

Contract impasse, and he's originally from NY. I could see something involving Laf/Goodrow and Zegras. Goodrow would have to be part of the deal so Rangers could sign Zegras, and he would help Anaheim bottom 6. Would love to see Vatrano come back too, but don't think that would happen.

Any possible deal with Laf and Byfield would definitely have to help LA address their cap issues in some way. They need to shed cap, not add it after PLD.

Keep Goodrow 2
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aecliptic</b></div><div>Othmann will not be playing in the regular season this year unless its to fill an injury. Playoffs who knows. Im sure when the time comes, Othmann will be tried on both wings. He has played RW, mainly on the PP, in juniors but LW is his natural position.
Maybe it will, maybe it wont make any sense to you. The way you get LAF top 6 minutes at even strength is to bump Kreider down to the 3rd line. The way Kreider plays has no bearing on what line hes on. Hes a straight north-south player who is going to crash the net, screen the goalie and get the dirty goals. He can do this on any line.
The main thing that should happen is trading Goodrow. Freeing up the money that would allow us to fill out the rest of the roster with good quality players.</div></div>
See what you're saying...was thinking Othmann for following year, not next. The 3 LW contracts would extend for a minimum of 2 years, right? Had seen similar about him playing some on right. If he develops there great, but they do still need two RW, with minimal cap.
Assume you're thinking something like:
Panarin-Zib-Kakko
Laf-Chytil-?
Kreider-Trocheck-Vesey
and a semi-new 4th line?
Even squeezing a player like Fast in there on RW could be super tight, no?

He's the only reliable RW on the roster. You'd have to replace him, and then they'd still need another RW. Think you got a better shot at Laffy than Kakko.

Flexible No Trade Moves
Love concept of 4th line, but think it will be more expensive than that. Agree on RW hole, but less confident an existing LW will reliably make that shift. Have more confidence in Trocheck making that move. Something's gonna have to give on LW to make room for Cuylle/Othmann.

This is why it would't surprise me to see one of Laf or Panarin traded for C or RW. Top prospects are LW, and are blocked. Think Laf will be a good player, but neither Kreider, Panarin, or Laf have shown any level of comfort on RW so far.

BreadStrome Reunion is a Win for the Rangers
Can't see Anaheim giving up those draft picks, but I could see something based on Vatrano and Henrique for Panarin and Vesey. Vesey's solid defensively and inexpensive. Acquiring Panarin and pairing him with Strome, likely could put the team in position to sign Tarasenko (who is hard to play against). McTavish-Zegras-Terry, Panarin-Strome-Tarasenko is a potent Top 6 that makes the Ducks more competitive right now, and still leaves them with cap space to shore up D, even after signing RFAs. Panarin and Tarasenko on the roster could help ease Mintyukov's transition to NHL, and takes some offensive burden off top line. By the time their contracts are up, next gen from this years draft haul is ready. Feels like it could be a win-win.

Big Moves - Ignoring NTCNMC
Now compare Vatrano's and Panarin's recent playoff production. Not vastly different.
Which ages better over life of Panarin's contract?
Kreider-Zib-Kakko
Panarin-Trocheck- Vesey
for next 3 years
or
Kreider-Zib-Kakko
Henrique-Trocheck-Vatrano
+3M in cap space this year
and
Kreider-Zib-Kakko
Othmann-Trocheck-Vatrano
+$8.825M in cap space next year (allowing Laf to get into top 6, and Othmann to ease in on 3rd line)?
