No it's real. Zibanejad is a huge problem on this team. Completely ineffective since last years' playoffs and has learned nothing. I think a solid middle sixer, great prospect, and a 1st are fair value for him. If the retention requires more as a Rangers fan I'd definitely swap out Locmelis for a better prospect (Poitras?) or take another 1st

I haven't seen much of him this year obviously so that's a big surprise, I thought he was well regarded, but if that is the deal I think its a strong yes

I don't think he's completely cooked or anything but he just doesn't look like himself. I think a change of scenery (and having to separate from his Kreider bro-mance which is a crutch for him) would do him wonders.

So that is about $30 million in retained cap space. If $6m cap space has been worth a late 1st round pick…the present value of that retention would be five 1sts (and unless you have five this year, it would end up being more than five 1st picks). Considering $8.5m x 7 is a fair contract for a 40-goal center in his prime…there would be not be much of a discount. The longest retention was Phil Kessel ($1.2m for 7 years). I think I would start there as max %.

I mean Boston accepts this without even taking a second to think about it. The Rangers would never make this offer though because they're getting hosed.
