So then I don't understand where the disconnect is. Messier was a true number one guy on a Stanley Cup team. Zibanejad isn't even a pimple on his ***. It's about patterns that we've been seeing for over a year now. This current roster isn't built to win Cups. Last night was merely an example of a bigger problem.

I mean obviously I have no knowledge of games prior to the 2000s but it is up there. The score itself doesn't really tell the story. It was just a complete lack of effort. They looked worse than a lottery team. Some games just stick out. That blown 3-goal-lead at home vs the Oilers last fall (the one where the Rangers allowed 4 unanswered goals) also comes to mind. Not even mentioning Games 4, 5 and 7 in the first round last year. These are all major stains on the history of the team

They lost in the WCF to the Cup Champs. There's no shame in that. They are a young talented and most importantly hungry team who has good things ahead.

Chytil is a bonafide 1C on a Cup Winning team already and he just improves more and more every year. He's the exact model of what I want every Ranger to be. He had a rough start and his development was screwed in so many ways. But he never complained. He put his head down, worked hard, and look at him now. I don't know how you can be a Ranger fan and not be a Chytil fan. I don't care that he hasn't scored yet (he actually did but Lafreniere was offside and ruined it). This comment just proves to me that you must not actually watch the games. The Panarin Chytil Alexis line is the best line we have. Trochek is fine but he absolutely does not look better than Chytil.
