Big Moves - Ignoring NTCNMC
You're buying cap flexibility, relieving the logjam at LW, and getting a quality, relatively inexpensive RW that you can't afford with Panarin's salary on the roster. None of the current LW in top 9 have proven they can play RW reliably.
Anaheim is one of the few teams that can take Panarin's cap, and one of the few he might waive his NTC for to play with Strome (and maybe Tarasenko if they signed him)...that gives Anaheim leverage.
Rangers get one season of Henrique and gain $5M+ of cap space when he's replaced by Othmann or Cuylle the following year (when Panarin's $11M would still have been on the books). Vatrano was really good on the RW and we already know he can handle the spotlight in NY.
Would argue the extra cap space this year and the value of Henrique and Vatrano in the playoffs will offset a 90 pt Panarin in the regular season. It's analagous to Amonte for Noonan and Matteau back in the day. The pick swap is additional incentive for Anaheim to do the deal. If its that offensive, Drury can try to get Anaheim's 2nd instead of Boston's.

Agree...this package won't get it done for Zegras. My thought would be Panarin, a 1st, and Vesey for Boston 2nd, Henrique, and Vatrano.
Anaheim signs Tarasenko for a Strome, Panarin, Tarasenko 2nd line to ease Fantilli in.

Harder to play against
He really had a bromance with Strome. If he could reunite with Strome and Tarasenko, along with the upside of Anaheim kids and smorgasbord of picks, i think he might waive.

Would there be something to a package based on Chytil and Goodrow for Rasmussen and Veleno? Chytil could team with Czech-mates to help unlock Zadina in particular.

Shoring up the middle
Hear ya...been doing them. Roster is similar to where we were before Tarasenko, Kane, and Mikkola were added (less of a contender). Would actually like to see Tarasenko and Mikkola back. Mikkola fits what Gallant wants more than Jones does (not a knock on Jones ability, more his fit).

Think there is the basis of something here, despite protests on both sides. Chytil's likely to get 4M+. Think the Rangers will have to give up one of Chytil, Laf, Kakko, or Miller and Goodrow to fit contracts next year.
Rasmussen as big, defensive 3C, and Veleno as 4th line center is not awful at all. Could also see value from Red Wings end, looking at Chytil to try to unlock Zadina and team with Kubalik. He's stepped up his game this year.

Like the idea of separating Panarin and Kane based on skillset.

Disgusting idea
I like the premise of a younger, cheaper 3C if Chytil needs to go, but there may be a better deal.
If there's any chance of keeping Chytil, think Goodrow's contract needs to go...he's the most replaceable.
Kreider not likely to go, still bringing good value with speed, leadership, and net front presence.
Trouba is one of the top open ice hitters in the NHL, and one of the few Ranger players that sets a tone physically. I wish his contract was more in the $6M range, but don't think he's going anywhere.

Im not claiming to be Drury but
Only way he dumps Chytil is to get younger and more manageable with cap. Detroit possible option to put him between Zadina, Kubalik, or Vrana.
Would think they would need something like Veleno and/or Rasmussen coming back to center 3rd line in more cost-controlled manner.
Not sure if move like that is worth doing now, or waiting until the off-season.

Think Domi/Lafferty is more realistic in cost and cap. Domi could slot with Kreider and Trocheck, Lafferty round out 4th line.

Framework of a deal
Not in as much a hurry to move Trouba honestly. His combo of size, skill, leadership, and tone-setting, clean hits is hard to find. Granted, would have liked him a whole lot more at 6.5 or even 7, but that's on Gorts. I think Panarin is best combo of return and cap savings...hard to give him up, but may be a necessity with other high end contracts.

Looked at Sabres too...don't think Bread would waive for them or Coyotes. Only shot was Anaheim or Detroit, and I liked the idea of a Czechmate line to make Chytil even more comfortable. Organizational history with Yzerman being GM is also a plus.
If they could swing a deal here, and make a run at Pasta for RW1 using Kakko, Kravtsov, Lundqvist, and whatever else was needed, it would be fantastic!

Agree on the Panarin thought. Love him, but if you could save cap, it might be better. This year's Trouba is setting a tone that's built for playoff hockey. Wouldn't be in a hurry to trade him.

Agreed...what if the deal centered around Chytil and Veleno? That would be more advantageous to the Rangers cap-wise, while allowing Detroit to build a Czech-ing line.

Chychrun and Chytil
Could definitely see something with Chytil and either Suter with retention or Veleno. Think czechmates could bring out best in chytil, and Rangers could use a less expensive 3rd line center assuming they bring back Copp or Strome for 2nd line.

Wonder if Detroit would entertain something with Chytil and Veleno, thinking that both Zadina and Chytil would feel even more comfortable with a fellow Czech on their line. Interesting concept...

How Much Space
I think this may be a reason you see Chytil moved too at the deadline. With Othmann and Cuylle coming up soon on the left side, and other potentially cheaper options, he could be a casualty. Same to a lesser extent with Kaako...if they can find an ELC version of him at C, it could be worth moving him as a chip than paying him. Buys them time to move a Trouba, Panarin, or Kreider contract down the line when they have to pay more of the youngins.
