Not a fan of either teams, but I would think Buchnevich has more value

Detroit got rid of Brendon Smith for a reason and he won't ever play for Detroit again.

From San Jose's point of view I would give a 2021 1st with no protection, Labanc, Chekovich, and Colorado's 2020 2nd. Not too much more, but San Jose isn't really in the position to go after another big name guy in a trade.

i know your point of view on this already. you don't have to keep reiterating your narrative. teams trade for players they traded in the past, been happening for decades. the wings also didn't get rid of smith because they didn't want him. he was traded at the deadline because they knew they couldn't afford him and they weren't a playoff team. smith is a player that can play both sides on d and forward. they can retain salary and trade him again at the dl.

that's a lot to give up for a middle 6 forward. the rangers would happily take your offer though. i'm not a fan of labanc but since you're giving him away for cheap i'd take him.

They traded him because he pissed off a couple in the front office.

He was traded because he wanted more than he was worth. He wanted more than Holland thought he was worth and he was dealt to Rangers and signed to a deal he wanted. Looks like Holland was correct and Yzerman is not going to take back Smith as he knows what he is and does not want players who are not trying.

mike, you're looking at this trade wrong. if the wings don't want smith they can put him in the minors or buy him out. smith isn't the value of the trade. he is there for salary cap reasons. in the trade the wings are getting a young LD who is nhl ready that could be a solid 3rd line D and a 3rd for Nemeth.

who gives a **** about smith, bro. the wings are taking 3 mill of his cap hit. smith also isn't useless of a player. he isn't good but look at your team. he'll also have value at the trade deadline for the wings.
