whats odd is that kakko is expendable. We have Kravtsov, gautheir and buch. I would hate to see him go but if this trade is a possibility, they have to pull the trigger. I also dont really like to see 2 players making more than 10 mil but this is something that does come along often!

I think for Eichel, and basically only someone on Eichel's level in terms of talent and cost control would Kakko be expendable.

The main problem here is bringing in aging UFA's with TERM to block prospects who are basically NHL and need NHL playing time. Dillon for 3 years means Miller not getting into the top 4 for awhile and Robertson not touching the NHL for 3 years. Gudas for 2 years means Lundkvist not coming up for 2 years. Both of those things are big problems.

Not to mention keeping Gauthier on the 4th line which is something you'd like to avoid with someone of his ceiling, as well as Fast keeping Kravtsov out of the NHL.

Aside from the Eichel trade, the main idea was to give our prospects room to develop with elite players dragging them along and improving them, as opposed to blocking them from opportunities.

Those guys are and will be tradable in 2-3 years and if not buyouts wouldn't be bad.

The problem you are forgetting with trading for Eichel is he wants to win now. He doesn't want to wait another 3 years or else he'd just stay in Buffalo. NYR are in a position where they can be legit contenders if the right moves are made.

They can trade Dillon if Miller is ready to squeeze in kind of like 2012 LA Kings when they trade Johnson and Voynov was ready to take his spot.
