Disclaimer: Just an idea, I may have absolutely missed on the player trade values because I rarely watch Buffalo games. Feel free to leave feedback.

Buffalo has Risto - Miller - Montour - Jokiharju down the right. They could shed some RHD for some top 6 help (Kapanen). Dermott has top 4 potential and can fill in 3LD behind Dahlin and McCabe. Liljegren might need another year but should be able to fill in 3RD by next spring.

The Leafs have a hole on 1RD and 2RD, because realistically Holl is a good 3RD nothing more. Adding in Montour and Joki can fill those holes with some competent players (Probably, again I dont watch BUF games). If BUF doesn’t feel that Miller can fill in on 2RD, the Leafs could take him instead of Montour/Joki, on the low, maybe keep Dermott/Liljegren.

I’d hate to trade Johnsson on the low but that 3.4M is needed for Miky.

Lehtonen will probably fit in somewhere as well. Could replace Sandin if he’s not ready, or Holl if his play drops off.
