Trades
1.
COL
  1. Samuelsson, Mattias
  2. 2020 2nd round pick (BUF)
  3. 2022 3rd round pick (BUF)
Additional Details:
Avs get a young crease-clearing Dman who can replace Cole when he heads to UFA, and possibly make Graves expendable 1-2 years down the line as well.

In this trade Avs get a prospect picked in the 2nd round and a high 2nd. The 3rd is 3 drafts away.

Avs could probably get a 2nd + 3rd for each of Jost and Zadorov... or 2 2nd's + 2 3rd's total (so this trade is "short" by a 3rd. However, the fact that the 2nd is a high 2nd, and that Samuelson is closer to NHL ready, balances that value. The 3rd rounder is 3 drafts away so that Buffalo aren't trading too many short-term futures.
BUF
  1. Jost, Tyson [RFA Rights]
  2. Zadorov, Nikita [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Buffalo pick up a physical LHD that enables them to move Ristolainen (and go with Jokiharju/Montour/Miller on the right).

They also get a young C with 2C upside who may break out with a change of scenery and a clear opportunity for top 6 minutes. Jost thrives with good players, and in Buffalo Jost would get the opportunity to play a line with Olofsson and Cozens.
2.
COL
  1. 2021 4th round pick (FLA)
FLA
  1. Kamenev, Vladislav [RFA Rights]

I'm not sure that he will be better than Zadorov in the attack, he also has problems with riding. But this is my opinion.

If Samuelsson got acquired by Colorado he most likely wouldn't be expected to contribute much offense, as his main jobs would be to:

- retrieve pucks and pass them over to his puckmoving D partner;
- hold the blueline on offense;
- deliver hits at our blue line;
- clear the crease;
- block shots;
- be awesome on the PK.

If he can do those things then nobody will care if he only hits 20-25 points. In fact, that range is where Erik Johnson has been points wise the last 3 seasons, and whilst it would be nice to see more it's hardly that important given who else we have on D. Between Makar (65 points), Byram (50 points), Girard (40 points), and Timmins (35 points) we have other guys who can carry the offensive load for the D group. But none of them are really PK beasts or crease clearers, so that would be a bit of a need once Zadorov/Cole/Graves/Johnson move on.

I understand, it’s just possible that other Buffalo fans don’t value Zadorov too much, but on the contrary, I value him more for personal reasons.

Well, I’m also stuck with this franchise, but it’s even more difficult for me, since I’m Russian and the team hasn’t a single Russian and Botterill didn’t take a single Russian in draft for three years, so I will specifically promote Russian guys in trading for Buffalo. smile

Ahhhhhhh that explains the Zadorov interest.

Privjet btw! grin

Since you mentioned that may I interest you in Kamenev as well? He's probably worth about a 4th on his own, or maybe enough to bump a 3rd up to a 2nd as a throw-in.

Samuelsson
2020 BUF 2nd
2021 BUF 2nd
2022 BUF 4th

for

Zadorov
Jost
Kamenev

That's a lot of picks to give up, but you can gain them back by trading a few players, such as Ristolainen (2nd++), Johansson (2nd at the deadline), and the rights to Pilut (3rd/4th).
