Laf isn't a centre, and I'd be surprised if Lehner wanted to come back.

You're right about Laf. That's my mistake. I am editing that to fix it. I don't know about Lehner. You might be right. He will want a starters job which Ottawa can offer him. He gets term and a salary that he's worth. We shall see I guess.

Dont go for Lehner, signing him is rushing the rebuild.. a few more prospects would go a long way in the next decade

I feel like having Hogberg split with Nilsson might keep the seat warm for someone to eventually seize the number one job. Assuming Lehner would take that offer you have your goalie for the next 6 years. You land a #1C in the draft and you can have a core with Chabot and Tkachuk. You know what you're getting with Lehner, He's proven he can start in this league. Hogberg, Gustavsson and Daccord and Sogard are prospects who have to actually develop. It might be a few years yet until one of these guys truly cements themselves as the starter. Maybe you sign Lehner shorter term and he would serve as a role model for these kids. Food for thought anyways.

The thing with Lehner is that he's going to be able to punch his ticket and go where he wants, and he's going to have more appealing offers than Ottawa.

Also I think Ottawa should be comfortable with their current tandem. Hogberg is a promising future option, and Nilsson is a great Stopgap starter and mentor for Hog.

Just feels like the same thing the Oilers did a few years ago, had a rebuild going rushed it.. and then had a lack of depth and prospects/pieces to complement their core,

would prob be best to wait till 2020 picks come to the NHL in 1-2 season's or so... then start going win now

Obviously not the same situation, but comparable
