Red Wings 2024-25 Playoffs
I want Berggren and/or Söderblom in any deal for Chychrun as a Sens fan. The cap is actually expected to go much higher next season so there’s some flexibility for you.

Realistically how much do we have to add
Forsberg has one year and you’d have Lankinen and Forsberg while Askarov marinates one more year in the AHL

I’d rather not do that. I just think from Nashville’s perspective that’s what they’d be after. You’re talking about trading for a top 5 goalie on a very good cap hit.

I’d say add one of our goalies so Nashville has an NHL level goalie while Askarov develops. Both firsts this year and maybe our first next year assuming Saros extends with us.

Win win Trade For both
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ploppz</b></div><div>1. HOW is this a win for Ottawa?
2. Why do we HAVE to get rid of Zaitzev and why so urgently, we have NOBODY else to put at RD unless you wanna call up JDB or Thomson too early and potentially stagger their growth? Ig Brannstrom can play RD too but what better is Nick Holden on the LD? Getting rid of Zaitzev for Drouin & Byron would solve absolutely nothing, especially when we can flip Zaitzev closer to the deadline. Can Sens fans please stop being so freaking panicky about Zaitzev?
3.
Saying Drouin will "definitely play" is like saying it'll definitely rain on the 21st of November when it's mid August. That man hasn't been healthy since 2018... Just no.</div></div>
1. Addition by subtraction — Zaitsev out (awful analytics and overpaid)
2. They have until the end of this season before they need his salary gone to make room for Stutzle’s extension and DeBrincat and Zub.
3. I really don’t care what they do with the Montreal guys. Bubble wrap them and box them up for all I care.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jonh514</b></div><div>Again... Habs accept but why would the Sens do this? Cap flexibility 1 year out?</div></div>
Exactly, for this reason alone. Give themselves room next summer for re-signing Zub, Stützle and DeBrincat or looking at Chychrun (??)

Why is Zaitsev so bad? Seems alright for a stay at home defensemen. Though clearly overpaid.</div></div>
He’s a decent bottom pairing D. His analytics are so bad playing top pairing D against other teams’ top lines and the salary is problematic when the Senators will have to re-sign DeBrincat and Stützle next summer.

That would be lovely. I can’t see Arizona just doing that without a massive haul in return. This gives them flexibility beyond this season. If Arizona wants to play ball then I’m all ears.

Not sure if you know but Byron will probably not play most or all of this year, and Drouin's wrists are so beat up he can't shoot the puck anymore. Doesn't seem like you want to play them anyway, but does that change your perspective on the deal?</div></div>
If that’s the case then Montreal can bury both on LTIR and this is moot. I wouldn’t want them to play for Ottawa. This is if Montreal needs the cap relief to sign Dach. Ottawa NEEDS to get Zaitsev out.

that would be nice. But, removing Zaitsev is improvement by subtraction and once those two Habs guys would be off the books after this year that gives them the cap relief to do that next year

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HockeyFan989</b></div><div>Dont go for Lehner, signing him is rushing the rebuild.. a few more prospects would go a long way in the next decade</div></div>
I feel like having Hogberg split with Nilsson might keep the seat warm for someone to eventually seize the number one job. Assuming Lehner would take that offer you have your goalie for the next 6 years. You land a #1C in the draft and you can have a core with Chabot and Tkachuk. You know what you're getting with Lehner, He's proven he can start in this league. Hogberg, Gustavsson and Daccord and Sogard are prospects who have to actually develop. It might be a few years yet until one of these guys truly cements themselves as the starter. Maybe you sign Lehner shorter term and he would serve as a role model for these kids. Food for thought anyways.

You're right about Laf. That's my mistake. I am editing that to fix it. I don't know about Lehner. You might be right. He will want a starters job which Ottawa can offer him. He gets term and a salary that he's worth. We shall see I guess.

I agree with you it is a lot. That is the going rate to get an all-star of Boeser's level. You have to pay for it. Sure I'd like to give up less, but anything else and the Canucks hang up the phone.

As a Senators fan I love this team! I would absolutely sign Lehner and Pietrangelo. They're studs and we have the cap room for it. I don't know if they would actually want to sign in Ottawa though. If Vancouver does that trade I'd be very shocked (and happy). The Duclair and Brown deals appear reasonable. If all these ducks fell in order I'd be very stoked to watch this team. GO SENS GO!

He just doesnt want to be on the bench in the playoffs which is assumingely his biggest concern. Could be the starter with like edm or Calgary who both have contracts they want out.</div></div>
I don't know if he would waive his NMC to go to Ottawa. They have three Swedish goalies in their system; Hogberg, Nilsson and Gustavsson. He'd be a starter there and mentor. Ottawa has the cap space to take on 100% of the salary. I just don't know if he'd be up for it.

This is pretty well done. I wonder if the King would accept a trade to help the Rangers obtain all that cap room.
