Edmonton is loaded with defense prospects and already have a pretty decent defense core as it is so Samorukov is in tough to ever break through with the Oilers and a 3rd round pick in 2021 won't be a contributing NHL player for at least three years but odds are it'll be more like 4 or 5 if it even amounts to anything

Samorukov probably needs just 1 more year of development before he's ready to step into the NHL. He has 2nd pairing upside, I'd rather that develops for another year and we see where the team is after the expansion draft than trade him for a player we don't need.

I agree that the 3rd has way less value than most CF posters think.

so yeah in the grand scheme of where Edmonton is at and what their needs are

Principally 3C and 2G. Jost isn't either.

and Jost' potential this is peanuts, the Oilers would be crazy to not make this trade if this is all it takes to acquire Jost.

Meh. He's a 20-25 point bottom-6 winger. You can get those in free agency for $1.5M or less without giving up an A level prospect or a 3rd.

Samorukov is an A level prospect now?

Think there's still potential for Jost to be more then that and he's a center as well, probably not as easy to find in free agency as you think it is.

Jost can't play center at the NHL level, they try every year and it never works.

Pronman ranked Samorukov inside the top 80, ahead of players like Josh Brook, Martin Kaut and even Edmonton's own Rafael Lavoie. I think that's an A level prospect.
