Dahlin doesn't even play on the third pair. It's just BUF that liked putting their pairings in any order (because in the end, whatever line it is, it's a disaster anyways tears of joy )

Agreed with the second part. Carlson will probably win it anyways because they only care about pts.

The problem is that you contradict yourself. " If they took more defense performance into winning a Norris, Doughty would probably have 5. " Idk if he would have 5 and Karlsson 0 but you first said " McAvoy has yet to reach over 35 points ". You just said how the Norris should actually be awarded and before that, you tell me abouts the pts.

McAvoy was one of the best defenseman defensively this season (all-around as well). Production-wise, he was on pace for 39/82GP. That's the only thing he can improve, primary points and shooting. Otherwise, very good offensively and dominant defensively. But he won't be in the conversation because most " experts " as you call them, just look at pts and not actual defense.

And no, there's no bias, Rask is 2nd in my Vezina ballot while a lot of people rank him 1st.

Doughty has only gotten under 40 points a couple times in his career I never said he would win it this year. If Doughty wanted to get 60+ points every year, he could. But he would have to sacrifice playing worse defense and he isn't willing to do that. He never has been. No one should he considered for a norris with less than 45 points and playing ****ty D. That would take both Doughty and McAvoy out. They've played great defense but neither have produced enough. You have to produce while playing great defense. I never contradicted myself, but good try.

You just want to ignore the truth lol. I'm not sensitive I'm just explaining something to someone who can't understand anything outside Boston...

Why 45 lmao

And that's only thing that McAvoy's lacking (a bit), unlike Carlson that is really bad defensively but gets a free-pass to the top3

I don't care about Rask into his discussion he's got nothing to do with Doughty. I've been saying Rask is the best goalie in the NHL for 3 years now. This is another example how bias, selfish, and unreasonable Boston fans are. You take a debate on whether or not Doughty is bad or good and you automatically start talking about how good you think Rask and McAvoy are lmao. You know absolutely nothing about hockey outside of Boston and you most definitely have a very inaccurate and bias evaluation on your teams players.

I already told you how I feel about Carlson and his potential undeserving Norris trophy so we can stop talking about him since he is irrelevant to this debate.

45, because in order to win a Norris you should be able to produce offensively while still not only being defensively responsible, but being defensively excellent. Some might say 50 points is a better starting point, but that's where people start getting too carried away on the offense aspect. I have no doubt one day McAvoy will win a Norris, obviously the defense part is there and he isn't too far from reaching that offense caliber. But you down playing Doughty's game is where you are wrong and unknowldgeable. You don't watch Kings games therefore your opinion is pretty much invalid.

Yeah, you want to say McAvoy is a top 5 Norris vote without ever reaching more than 35 points and you want to say Doughty is bad without looking at any variables. You have never beat me in a debate and it doesn't start with this one.

You don't understand analytics that's why and believe you can see everything just by watching games. Guess what, it's not like that.

Doughty is BAD.

Quoting: bhavikp27
I know your a LAK fan and you probably like/liked/love Doughty but try to use an objective view, as much as you can.
If you just want to believe Doughty is still good/elite and don't want to try to understand my point, I will tell you now, just stop reading and move on.

If it's not the case, you can just read those articles. It's well explained and very detailed.
(there are analytics AND videos if you prefer eye test)

https://jfresh.substack.com/p/drew-doughty-is-not-only-no-longer
https://jhanhky.substack.com/p/is-drew-doughty-still-good

(Second link has videos)

Maybe he'll be good next season, maybe in 2-3 years, maybe never again but currently, he is bad. Good thing is that you got several young promising D and the best prospect pool. It will just hurt the salary cap... one day.

There are 2 ways to easily tell what pairing a player is on: (1) 5v5 TOI per game and (2) quality of competition.

1. Dahlin averaged of 15:03 of 5v5 TOI per game, good for 5th among Sabres regulars.

http://naturalstattrick.com/playerteams.php?fromseason=20192020&thruseason=20192020&stype=2&sit=5v5&score=all&stdoi=oi&rate=y&team=BUF&pos=D&loc=B&toi=0&gpfilt=none&fd=&td=&tgp=410&lines=single&draftteam=ALL

2. Dahlin spent the least percentage of his 5v5 icetime against Elite opponents of all Sabres defensemen. This also indicates sheltering by the coaching staff.

http://puckiq.com/woodmoney?season=20192020&tier=Elite&positions=d&team=buf&group_by=player_season_team

Colin Miller also ranks as 3rd pairing by these metrics, and Dahlin spent the majority of his 5v5 TOI with Miller.

http://naturalstattrick.com/playerreport.php?fromseason=20192020&thruseason=20192020&stype=2&sit=5v5&stdoi=oi&rate=y&v=t&playerid=8480839

He did play some time with Montour and Ristolainen, but the coaches were careful to only put him out with them when the puck was in the neutral or offensive zones already, as you can see in the link above, which speaks to sheltering.

He played 3rd pairing this season, unquestionably.

Yikes

I think you and I have had our fair share of debates, but at least you have common sense and an unbiased approach.

Thanks! I don't always, but I try.

There are 2 ways to easily tell what pairing a player is on: (1) 5v5 TOI per game and (2) quality of competition.

1. Dahlin averaged of 15:03 of 5v5 TOI per game, good for 5th among Sabres regulars.

2. Dahlin spent the least percentage of his 5v5 icetime against Elite opponents of all Sabres defensemen. This also indicates sheltering by the coaching staff.

http://puckiq.com/woodmoney?season=20192020&tier=Elite&positions=d&team=buf&group_by=player_season_team

Colin Miller also ranks as 3rd pairing by these metrics, and Dahlin spent the majority of his 5v5 TOI with Miller.

http://naturalstattrick.com/playerreport.php?fromseason=20192020&thruseason=20192020&stype=2&sit=5v5&stdoi=oi&rate=y&v=t&playerid=8480839

He did play some time with Montour and Ristolainen, but the coaches were careful to only put him out with them when the puck was in the neutral or offensive zones already, as you can see in the link above, which speaks to sheltering.

He played 3rd pairing this season, unquestionably.

Alright, but it doesn't matter, he isn't in the top20 D/LD now.

It's still there, but the important thing is that you admit to being wrong. Next time educate yourself BEFORE trying to refute what I've written.

Have a nice day.

You don't understand analytics that's why and believe you can see everything just by watching games. Guess what, it's not like that.

Doughty is BAD.

We've already been over this, analytics don't tell the whole store, that's a fact. There are many variables to statistics. You saying Doughty is bad based on that nobodies article is again, proof of your incompetence. You read and believe what seems best to you without looking into things yourself. Trusting what you read isn't 90% BS. That my friend makes you a social media puppet, like the rest of the world.

By the way, how do you think players get drafted? By analytics alone or eye tests by being scouted by some of the most educated and experienced scouts in the game? Again, time after time you openly display your incompetence for everyone to see...

May have read too fast
Sorry I don't focus only on ES, prefer to see what a player can do in all/any situation(s).

Hence why you should just stick to Boston related topics, your knowledge doesn't go much further than that.

My advice, educate yourself on giving Bruins players unbiased and truthful evaluations before you stick your wings out and fly into other teams topics.

You think I will take an advice from someone who thinks Drew Doughty is still good? And I'm biased? hahahahaha

Do scouts take what they see and keep that knowledge in the bank for the player they are scouting or evaluate on a game to game basis?

You can start the debate over and over again if you'd like, you're just going to lose the same way again.

I don't care if you take the advice or not. I'm just trying to help you look less unknowledgeable.

Notice how Bunzy left the debate?
