I don't think the Sabres need to add the second if Arizona is not retaining any salary. They are freeing up 7 million in cap for Arizona that they desperately need.

ARI is sending the 2nd because Buffalo is absorbing a lot of salary and trading 2 quality dmen for expiring ? marks.

Got it I looked at it and viewed the pick going the other way. I think the Sabres accept if it is a 2020 2nd.

Anaheim won't be trading Henrique for a 2021 first, and the only 2020 first you have is for Alexis LaFreniere, so . . .

I'm not a BUF fan, I'm not an ARZ fan, but this trade doesn't make sense to me for either side.

Help.

Sabres trade a RHD that they have an abundance of and a dman who is good but doesn't want to be in Buffalo anymore to Arizona to help shore up their defense and the Yotes save some cap space here by clearing $6.875M in the deal for 2 aging ? marks and a pick as well for the troubles. Sabres do it because they get a goalie who can play hockey with Ullmark unlike Hutton and Stepan improves their C depth and shelters Cozens if he is the NHL next year.

So, no.

Shame. ARI would be quite nice.

That is a good team you've constructed there.

Maybe I could be persuaded to take the 2021 second instead if you added Victor Soderstrom and I added our 2020 third.

Why would AZ trade their saviour on defense?

'cause they want Henrique. Your assumption is that Coyotes management wants to "win now." I'm going along. I didn't say it was what you or I would do.

Anaheim is under no pressure to move Henrique. Ergo, the Ducks expect an immediate benefit: either a high draft pick in 2020, or an asset likely to make an impact this season or in 2021-2022 at the latest. Soderstrom is the only guy I can see us interested in.

Of course, the vestiges of that Hall deal hang over everything: the 2021 second goes away if Hall re-signs, and it even becomes a first if Hall re-signs AND Arizona wins the first two post-season ties this summer.
