I mean I don't disagree entirely but with the flat salary cap situation I'm betting he'll have less value than you think. That said even if they do find someone that wants him the Blues will still need to dump enough cap to resign Petro. Finding someone that offers you someone/something with either no cap hit coming back at all or at the very least less than what the Blues can buy him out for is very unlikely IMO. Either way it was just simpler to buy him out in this exercise than find a random team to take the cap hit.

Bozak to reunite with Kessel in Ari for Grabner. A cash dump player who can actually play vs. an injury prone aging asset.

Saves the Blues 2 million when Grabner plays and when Grabner suffers his normal injury issues, it'll remove the whole Bozak contract.

I mean athletes retiring before their contracts end isn't all that rare. Considering Steen's age and his injury history over the last couple years, I wouldn't be surprised either way. Sure he could pull a Backes and make them pay him his money, but considering Steen's mutual respect for the organization I think it might be the best situation for both sides for him to retire. Just a suggestion that makes things easier for the Blues to resign Petro that's all.
