Need more value back in these trades but the right idea here IMO. Wonder if Craig Smith is really the answer at 3C though. Love him for the 3rd line but he has played very little actual C I think. Even though he's listed as C/W.

EDIT: also would stay away from Sheahan. Not interested in trying that again. He's still a bad player.

I like Smith but 5 million for a 3rd center to play with Sheehan and tanev. Seems like a waste. Keep McCann on that line with them maybe.

I wouldn't say Hornqvist fits a need for Detroit, that contract is expensive and long, if you want to get rid of it the cost is far higher.
That said, Hornqvist is a fine NHLer, and im not sure why you would pay Craig Smith that much to be a 3C. Stick Sheahan there and keep Hornqvist and Hallander.

We get rid of a big cap hit and they don’t give up much. How’s that “brutal”?

Hornqvist is worth his cap hit, and considering you blew his savings on a downgrade in Craig Smith that would be a massive loss for Pittsburgh. Hornqvist is a solid veteran you can book for 40 points a year through the end of his deal, no idea why you move him for a 5th and 7th. You even threw in our best center prospect for reasons completely unknown

We have one prospect worth anything and that’s POJ. Our prospect pool is probably the worst in the league. We need to acquire cap space and picks. If we don’t get Lafreniere this team is finished for the foreseeable future
