Thinking about the budget :(

Created by: CMac66
Team: 2016-17 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 28, 2016
Published: Sep. 5, 2016
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
It's really just for opening space for when Stone, Ceci and Turris get new contracts in 2 years. Pageau will get a hefty raise and Lazar a slight bump next year so cap space would be tight. Hemsky to help with the cap but Nichushkin, Dickinson (good rookie year in AHL) and the 2nd for Ryan which is slightly less than what the Sens paid Anaheim. Nichushkin can play with Turris and MacArthur, 2 good defensive forwards. I understand the Sens are in win now mode but money will be needed for those 3 players who I view as more of the core of the team. They will still be competitive.

The stars get Ryan and yes a larger cap hit BUT Hemsky goes the other way this year, and next summer Oduya and Sharp become free agents. It's more than enough extra money and he replaces Sharp as the other scoring threat when he leaves. They give promising Dickinson and Nichushkin but they have the likes of Gurianov, Faksa, Janmark, Elie, Shore and Ritchie knocking at the door.

As of now Nichushkin is a bust and will go to the KHL if Dallas doesn't give him what he wants so he won't be all that pricey to acquire once Dallas gets desperate.

I actually sorta like this. The only downside for me is that we're getting Nichushkin, who's shown flashes of brilliance, but isn't yet a proven asset.

PLUS we'd be shedding Ryan's contract (although his community work would be missed), PLUS we'd be getting back a second round pick, PLUS Ales Hemsky would be back in Ottawa, and we all know what he can do!
