Quoting: draft_em_sign_em_trade_em
Playoff hockey is all about wearing down your opponent, meaning the forwards must pound the other teams Dmen through the boards (ahem Muzzin and Barrie, make Marincin and Holl afraid to go into the corners). The Leafs bottom 6 need to get bigger stronger and meaner. The Dubas plan of rolling 3 small but fast skilled lines is a failure.
I think every line needs some skill and some grit. Hyman on the 1st line, Mikheyev on the 2nd line, Kapanen on the 3rd line, Engvall on the 4th line. DeBrincat and Marner play as if their the same size, but Cernak is a monster and Ellis makes hits too. We aren't Columbus. We play a finesse game, but in order for it work we probably shouldn't have Marincin and Ceci playing 17 minutes a night. This defense is quite good. Rielly is good at the high cycle, and with Ellis on his side that pairing should be cycling and shooting like crazy. No more Ceci shots. The defense won't be amazing but will still be good. I don't think this is the pairing we want facing top competition though.
Cernak and Muzzin will be our shutdown guys. Muzzin is 6'3 215 and Cernak is 6'4 235. This will be a hard pairing to play against. They will hit hard, grind pucks out of corners, and move the puck out of the dzone with ease.
The 3rd pairing is fine. Lehtonen is an offensive stud, but also good in his own zone. He is a great skater and has a great shot. Also doesn't hurt that he has a nice 6'0 200 lb frame. Dermott has shown a ton of promise through the playoffs and can move the puck well. Between these 2 guys I expect a ton of offensive production.
