Maximum Domi

Description
EDIT: Don't feel like redoing it, but the second trade was supposed to be to Ottawa! Sorry!

Domi is currently playing on the 4th line and not even 15 minutes of TOI for the Habs in the playoffs, who suddenly find themselves deep at center with crazy performances from youngsters Suzuki and Jesperi. With the Rangers incredibly deep at wingers and in need of a center... could trade partners be born?

Add/subtract picks/prospects as needed from both trades. I think I'd still rather build "From Within" as my other teams have demonstrated, but Domi is a player I'd love to have. Domi and Lemiuex on the same team? C'mon!

Seems like Domi is someone they would rather move than pay anyway and could be had for less. Like Tony D and one other piece or even 1-1

I would consider Tony D to be a bigger price to pay than Buch and Co. : P

With current depth, either Buch, Kakko, or Laf will be on the 3rd line, and I don't think that works for the Rangers. So I think it's best to deal a winger. Won't be missing too much

I think MTL moves one of << Domi - Tatar - Drouin >> + either a pick, a B prospect or a combination of both to get either a scoring winer or a solid top-4 D.
But they won't trade either of them for a bunch of prospects.

Way too much. Can't move Buch in a deal for Domi.

Buch and Strome are prospects? .-.

Rykov is allegedly supposed to develop into a top 4 NHL defensemen. He hasn't gotten a chance with the Rangers at all due to existing depth. But I'm considering the bigger prize here as Buch, and they can choose to flip Strome or sign him as well.

Sorry, I kinda replied randomly and not on that specific package. To be honest, I don't know the Rangers players that much. I know little about Rykov and Andersson, so I can't judge. But from what I've seen on Strome, I don't like the fit in MTL. We have KK and Suzuki at C for our top-6. And Danault is the perfect 3C. Would Strome play wing?

Buch is a nice player. I cannot tell if he generates offence on his own or if he only benefits from playing with dynamic players plike Panarin or Zibenedjad.

But I can see the value in this deal for the Habs. I'm sorry that I judged it too soon... See, Habs fans CAN be logical/humble... at times! wink

It's okay man, thanks for the comment! At the end of the day I'm not 100% sure on the Habs' needs either, and was seeing if a trade could be agreed upon by both sides.

Strome can play the wing as well, and could be decent to pair on the 2nd line maybe to take faceoffs if one of the younger centers struggles, etc.

I'd love to answer that on Buch, but at the end of the day I'm not exactly sure. He's a streaky forward... seems to play better when mad. When he's going, he looks good and makes chances himself. But even with Zibanejad and Panarin and Kreider, he can turn invisible. But, he is still young, and is consistently a half point per game player or better.

I know the Habs would probably benefit better from a defensemen, but I'd consider our "good" ones hopefully untouchable. So it's possible a trade can't be reached here. But again, the Rangers are over-flowing with good defensive prospects, and Rykov is one of them

Habs are, IMO, kinda stuck with too many 2nd/3rd line players. So I think they should look into trading for proven, top-level talent instead of betting on younger players that have not yet reached their full potential. That's what I meant when I said « prospects »...

So yes, maybe Rangers and Habs are not good trading partners in that sense, if you tell me that you guys are kinda in the same situation... wink

I'd like the Habs to trade Domi + Poehling + a couple of picks to a team that needs to manage cap space and is somewhat forced to trade a solid player, beit a scoring winger or a top-pairing d-man...
