No thanks. Counter offer: Faksa for AA. (Maybe we can throw in a small piece if needed)

Pass. Not sure why you wouldn’t go for that deal. Faksa checks off a big need for y’all imho. McNuggets had 9 points in 4 games, Nuge had 8, Drai had 6.... and y’all still couldn’t beat the Hawks. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the series. But having some key defensive players to compliment your potent top six would be a nice boost. Just my two cents

I just wouldn’t want to give Puljujarvi for him. I may not be a professional scout but I seek great potential in him.

Fair. Nobody would have any interest in a kid that left cause he wasn’t getting his way if he didn’t have potential. But the fact that he did leave is still a thing. And will effect his value. I don’t think you get more than Fox and Honka unless he comes back and plays well for Edmonton. If he shows he can be a consistent threat in the NHL then I’m down to talk about a better offer (not that I’m an NHL GM or anything lol)

Curious as to if there could be a larger trade here, and I want to build off of the idea of Puljujarvi to Dallas and Faksa to Edmonton, but I'm going to add a few other pieces elsewhere. Hear me out:

Immediately I want to add a Russell-for-Cogliano swap into this deal. Both are hefty hits, but serve the other team better than their current club. Harley needs a stopgap, if only for half a season, and Edmonton needs to make room on its blueline. Cogliano has enough two-way utility to justify the swap for the Oilers. If it makes life easier, let's assume Edmonton retains enough on Russell's deal such that no team sees their cap change. Even?

Edmonton badly needs to recuperate some value on Athanasiou if they're looking to flip him, and it's not kuch of a secret that Dallas needs help scoring.

Given Edmonton's lack of a need for more RHD, Honka isn't a piece that excites me in this deal. I don't believe that Puljujarvi for Faksa is even: you've identified that more is needed and I agree with the premise.

Between whatever value Athanasiou has and the gap between Puljujarvi and Faksa, what could Dallas add to this swap such that both teams feel like they've won the trade? Dellandrea or Gurianov are pieces that Edmonton should be interested in but I'm not sure the gap is that great.

Faksa and a pick for JP works. Making the pick conditional based on his performance would be a smart way for Edmonton to possibly get more for JP. JP doesn’t get you anywhere near Guri, and I’d rather keep Dell than take a chance on JP. Don’t want Russell. He was horrible here and I’d love to not re visit that

Can't do conditional picks anymore as per the new player agreement. Someone has to either balk at a low return or a high risk.

I think you missed that I was including Athanasiou in this. Of course Puljujarvi for Gurianov straight across is unlikely.

AA and JP for Guri is still a no go. Quality for quantity trades rarely work out for the team getting quantity
