Johnsson Trade Spare Cap for UFA RHD

Description
The one trade I made leaves us with $1.8M in space to potentially target a UFA RHD, maybe Kevan Miller or TVR would take discounts in exchange for term, and I don't think we need Shattenkirk. DeMelo is also a UFA which could be interesting

Dubas is pretty familiar with Timmins, so I think this could be an easy fit, plus, if he's ready which is sounds like he is, then he can shore up the 3rd pairing RHD slot

May have to add a depth pick on either side of the deal to make it happen

COL declines.
Timmins is a big part of COL D moving forward.
Johansson doesnt fit in COL and hes pretty pricey for just one true breakout year

Lol right? Barrie is an FA though, they can always sign him .

Jokes aside, Leafs would likely have to package a pick in there as well, just don't know the value of the pick

The value isn't even close tbh. Johnsson is a dime a dozen player, especially this season with the flat cap there will be teams practically giving away players of his caliber to clear cap space. Sakic wouldn't give up a prospect like Timmins for that

I could see Timmins being a heavy target for Dubas though, a higher pick would likely be paired with him for the trade to work. Timmins played in Dubas' and Keefe's systems in Junior. With Namestikov and Colin Wilson hitting UFA next year, Johnsson could fit in nicely

It makes sense from a "Dubas Soo Grey Hounds" connection, but doesnt make sense from a COL perspective.

D core for them moving forward is:
Graves (LHD) - Makar (RHD)
Girard (LHD) - Timmins (RHD)
Byram (LHD)

Can you see how moving Timmins creates a huge hole on the right side?

Im talking D core in 2-3 years.

Zadorov is likely to be moved in this offseason as his deal is up and they dont have room for him next year (hes also LHD).

Next year looks like:
Graves - Makar
Girard - Johnson
Cole - Timmins
Byram
