Hard pass from Detroit, Virtanen isn’t a Yzerman player and Demko doesn’t have nearly enough value to take on Eriksson nor is Eriksson waiving for us.

Jordie Benn isn't getting a return. 2M for a fringe 3rd pairing D is too much.

Only valid point is the last one. If Eriksson waived the Red Wings should be all over this. I know the Sens would be.

Lots of really good things here.

Too nitpick, I think there are better back up goaltending options other than smith. I would try and flip Edmonton’s 2nd to Minnesota for Stalok maybe.

As well, I would keep Benn. He’s a serviceable 7th Dman and only one year left in his contract anyways. Keep him and start michaelis in the AHL

What do value (in picks) Virtanen? Demko? Demko is an unproven goalie for a team that needs to make some tough decisions before ED. Virtanen is weird because he has all of the tools to be successful but is extremely lacking on the defensive side of his game and lacks maturity. He recently got blasted by his own team mates for hustling and Yzerman is known to want guys that give it 100% every night. Maybe you see something different than me and let’s keep this discussion civil and not personal.

Why aren’t the other points valid? I could see Melnyk looking at Eriksson since his actual cash is lower than his cap hit.

Cause that's an overpay to move out Eriksson's contract.

I'd keep Benn if I had to pay to move him. If someone's willing to take him for free then I'd move him out as quickly as possible.

I’d value Demko as a mid 2nd round pick and Virtanen doesn’t interest me very much as I want my third liners to be 200ft players. If I had to value Virtanen I’d say second rounder. So taking on 6M x 2 years for a bottom six winger that would probably want a buyout to waive is 6.67M actual and 10.67M cap so looking at recent dump trades that’s ehhhh in value (2 second rounders). Maybe we just value these guys differently.

I wouldn't accept it if we had to send back a 2nd, we should be sending back something like erne, or someone like his value

what? It's a 2nd round pick....Virtanen is a RH forward and 6th overall. AND we get a legit goalie prospect...

So many Wings fans value those 2nds it makes lol

Have you looked at this year's 2nd round? It's filled with sick prospects, we are rebuilding, there is not a chance I'm moving those picks for this package. We should be getting back demko and a first or at least a 2nd to take erikkson without having to give anything back.

We value 2nds? Go look at yzerman and 2nd round picks success rate one example is kucherov.

He's 24, and a 6th overall, AND a right hand shot...he'd be our 3rd or 4th best forward immediately.

That is hilarious. Sick prospects?

Good luck with that strategy.

I don't think you pay attention to how a team rebuilds as well as this upcoming draft my man. This is the deepest draft since 2003, go look who we can get in the 2nd round. We are helping Vancouver by taking their awful contract, they need to pay for it, not us

lol you're simply just buying into the nonsense draft hype like every year. Go check how likely it is for a 2nd rounder to make it to the NHL (hint: it's not high). Way more likely to be a Frk or a Jurco or a Ouellet than a Bertuzzi or a Tatar.

It's likely they won't even be as good as Virtanen, who, again, is a 6th overall.

Yzmeran, and any smart hockey fan, pulls the trigger on this immediately.

BLM says hello and then Fabbri is debatable since they both produce similar and lack defense. Then looking at Zadina whom is better and I’d wager Rasmussen after a good offseason and being healthy, I’m not buying 3rd or 4th. Just because you were selected 6th years ago means jack, hell with that logic let’s bring in Yakupov dude was 1OA.

I'd say stop talking to this guy on the thread he apparently has 0 idea what the wings fans want or how a rebuilding team works. The fact that he values virtanen over Zadina is ridiculous. If they were traded seperate zadina would get a top player/prospect/pick. Virtanen would get a 2nd or 3rd

We are talking next year projections correct? Or are you moving the posts to fit your narrative? You should love Zadina he was a former 6OA who produced .5PPG while playing with Filppula, Nielsen, Helm, and Glendening. I’d also wager you don’t routinely watch Grand Rapid.

I just try to understand people’s thought process but everyone goes for personal attacks instead of civil dialogue. Nothing wrong with a different point of view but you better be able to defend your position intellectually.

Whether Eriksson waives would, I imagine depend on whether Detroit is willing to buy him out (though that would cost more in a trade, naturally)
