Trade for D

Created by: DirtyRebound
Team: 2016-17 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 9, 2016
Published: Sep. 16, 2016
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Trade for Savard may come at a better price during pre season with CBJ cap troubles and the amount of young D they have coming in (Werenski, Harrington, Heatherington, etc.) They would probably prefer to trade Johnson but could be persuaded to trade Savard. Bruins should hop on any chance that presents itself like this, then expose McQuaid and Miller to the expansion draft next year. Forward core is weakened without Spooner but having strong centers will lessen the burden on the young guys.

Spooner. He's a few years older and is looking for a raise on his next contract. Also the Bruins have Czarnik who looks to be a similar player to Spooner, as well as a few young centers such as (Donato, Forsbacka-Karlsson, Frederic etc) who could look to push that 3C spot in the near future.

I like this a lot. Helps both teams with protected players as well. I think this type of trade will be common around the trade deadline and short offseason prior to the expansion draft. Teams will essentially work together to become more balanced, while in turn Las Vegas will technically be getting worse by missing out on players teams would like to but can't protect.

Ah. So this is why I come on here to see eleventy billion Savard-for-Spooner rosters. smile

Frankly, I'm not a fan of the idea. For one, we don't have a good RHD behind Savard to take over, and JJ doesn't play well on his off hand. For another, Spooner is not much of an upgrade to our already overstuffed forward corps, and he's due for a new contract at the same time as Wennberg and Korpisalo and Anderson (and I'm not a big fan of Morrow). I just don't see this making much sense for the Jackets.
