Lateral move for Carolina. Freddie and Mrazek had very comparable seasons and it's not worth moving down 3 rounds to move laterally

That’s true, you could definitely lower the pick. The way I kinda look at it is Andersen is still a really good goaltender who had a terrible defensive team in front of him. Mrazek has better defensive team in-front of him but he’s just not as good as Andersen. So I kinda saw it as the Canes get a goalie they can trust for an entire season and Leafs take a chance on a goalie to move up in the draft and to free up some cape space.

When you look at the analytics of the defensive teams, they're both very similar, mainly due to the fact Carolina's blueline was just destroyed with injuries. Toronto's was too, but it has less of an impact when the replacements are better than the starters. Freddie gets much more offensive help too, where Carolina really only have the SAT line that dominated. Even Staal had a backward step. It's not really worth coming out of the 2nd round to try to reclaim Andersen. When you look at who Carolina have run with in terms of reclamation products. They gave up Darling and a 5th for Reimer, Claimed McElhinney off waivers and twice signed Mrazek in Free Agency.
