Pens 2021

Created by: Pattymac
Team: 2020-21 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 28, 2020
Published: Aug. 28, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Keeping it simple. Bury Jack Johnson in the minors. Recover some value for Murray and get a bottom pair RD.

Weakness is the depth at LD, though there will be options available at the trade deadline and any LTIR value will accrue to that point gaining a bit more flexibility. Gologoski or Hjarmalsson from Arizona would be targets at that point with some salary retention. The 2nd from the Ottawa trade would be the ammo.

The value for Murray is fair, but the target is not.

OTT is not in the place to spend draft capital for a goalie

Wings pass, pens add a 3rd for us to take a bad contract and you can have back a bad player like perlini

They're not paying to get rid of Bjugstad and he's better than what the wings have in their middle 6. Worst case he can be moved at the deadline for more than the 6th you send in that deal

That guy also seems to be of the belief that Detroit is almost past the "Take on contracts to flip for draft capital." part of their rebuild.

Nope, you either pay to get rid of him or keep that cap hit, you can't go by what the wings have currently. Bottom line is pens are in a Cap crunch and need to shed this contract, wings don't need him right now, we aren't competitive. So you pay, or you keep him and that's it

As a wings fan, Bjugstad is better than any C not named Larkin we have now. Which is sad to say. Maybe if he has a good year you flip him at the TDL for something higher than a 6th.

Not going to hate on ya for this trade.

We aren't in a cap crunch though... if we move Murray (which we will) we have more than enough cap to keep him. The Wings might not be a great fit in your mind but he's clearly an upgrade on what you have and is low risk as he's UFA at the end of the year. More likely than not some team takes him on for next to nothing, I'm confident we won't have to pay to get rid of him.

Flat cap not helping anyone out unless they pay, so essentially you can peddle him elsewhere buddinsky

I didn't know you were Detroit's GM, my bad. Again, he helps your roster so I'm not sure where your issue with that deal lies, but wish you the best. Have a lovely day
