The Rangers take on Stepans entire Contract WITHOUT any retention and end up moving DOWN in Draft order on top of it?

I doubt the Jets have any interest in that trade. Winnipeg needs a 2C, not a 3C looking to get paid on his last pro contract.

He's 27? This will not be his last contract. and He's a 50 pt player. That's not a 3C. And before I hear the Panarin BS, he was more than a .5 ppg player without Panarin in 2018 with the Rangers.

He'll likely be looking for a long term contact based off of his career year, as he'll likely never hit those totals again. Overall he's a 42 point per year player on average, so yes he's a 3C.

Stepan is hard to value and Arizona wants picks. If we could get him for cheaper im fine with it but he's not a complete trash dump.

He's not a dump, but he is not worth his full deal. Which is a lot to take on in a flat Cap Season.

If Yotes retained half, I would give them the 3rd and not ask for the 4th.
