I'm actually a fan of that idea. Great trade for both teams!

Hawks are unlikely enough to trade Hossa as it is without retaining.

Been seeing more and more Hossa trades so I thought I'd explain why it's so unlikely he gets traded.
1.) Hossa has a full NMC, so he'll need to approve any destination he goes. Right now not looking good for this trade. NJ has ALOT of work to do in order for Hossa to WANT to go there.
2.) Hossa only makes $4M this year and $1M for the following 4 years. Due to his injury situation he'd retire first...he's made his money.
Now some people already factor this in which is fine, but there is a HUGE catch to this. Pages 267 and 268 of the NHLPA below.

"Notwithstanding the provisions of Sections 50.5(d)(ii)(A) and (B), in the event that any such Long-Term Contract is Assigned during its term, each Club for which the Player plays under the terms of that Long-Term Contract shall be subject to being charged with any and all "Cap Advantage Recapture" amounts it receives pursuant to that Long-Term Contract, provided, however, that if a Club Traded a Long Term Contract prior to the execution of this Agreement (including any binding Memorandum of Understanding) under which it gained a "cap advantage," the "Cap Advantage Recapture" shall not apply to that Club for that Long-Term Contract. For purposes of clarity, the Club to whom such Long-Term Contract was Assigned after the execution of this Agreement (including any binding Memorandum of Understanding) shall be subject to the Cap Advantage Recapture (if any)."

3.) So, from a Hawks point of view...they'd STILL be on the hook for the cap recapture even if he retires early @ NJ. At first I wondered how Detroit got away with this, but Pavel Datysuk has a different situation. He signed a 3 year deal AFTER the agreement and AZ isn't buying him out. It's a straight cap hit. I am curious if Hossa can do the same though. Play in Europe for a year...maybe
