First, I basically reversed the ROR trade, bringing him and McGinn back, and shipping out the assets gained in that trade: Zadorov, Grigorenko, Compher, and AJ Greer.

I also shipped out Soderberg, because it's a widely accepted theory that he was brought in as a ROR replacement.

After letting Stastny walk, we signed Iginla, so I basically swapped the two.

That leaves us significantly over the cap, so I assumed we would have to cut back on a UFA signing or two, and find a suitor for Brad Stuart's cap hit. That's the ARI trade.

After filling out depth positions with cheap guys in the system or PTOs, we were still a bit over, so I moved Mitchell, as has often been rumored.

That leaves us with about 310k in cap room (which is not reflected here, because I couldn't actually erase Stuart's cap hit).

What do you think? Personally, I'd rather have the current Avs. More depth on the roster and in the system, with a little more financial wiggle room for the future.

No, O'Reilly isn't a 7.5m guy. The choice would have been to take the Buffalo trade or a year earlier take the Calgary RFA offer sheet. Why did Erik Johnson get 6m a year? Maybe he would have signed for less, or let him walk and sign someone better for 6m a year.
