people think for some reason that you could get Hamilton for a 1st+ johnsson. This could only happen if Carolina believes they cannot afford him

Assets gained for Carolina:
-Young cost controlled forward in the right age group that would be great in the top 6
-best prospect in the organization that is a sure fire top 4 dman in the future
-#1 goalie who is only owed 1 million this year and would excel behind Carolinas defense.

Assets to toronto
- A legit #1 right handed defenseman which they haven't had in decades also signed to an extension
-under league average goalie who could be bought out/traded for picks (in the deal for money)

It's cause it's a trade with the leafs and canes are giving TO "something they need" therefore it must be a massive Overpay even though Carolina has a mass amount of D depth , do need a starting goalie, and could definitely use a Nylander type player in the top 6.

From a canes perspective this is one of the few offers that is close to value. I don’t think the canes have any intention other than to resign dougie he is simply to important. People like Nylander, while a great player, can be found. Dougie, however, is the type of player that everyone is looking for and seldom find. If the canes can’t get him signed long term around 8.5-9.5 it’s a must. If it’s going to be 10+ the discussion of trading him could be had imo
