I think that price is about correct. I’d say the retention is probably closer to 1.5

No reason to add gardener and Pacioretty. Friedman said the canes aren’t pursuing schmaltz due to the contract. I could see chychrun

You are probably correct I was likely too light on the prospects

1 year from ufa is going to limit the return I would imagine. I see why you would ask for Jarvis but the canes wouldn’t do it. This will never happen but it would be quite funny.

Canes get big and fast
I think i do the Meier trade. Giving up Jarvis is tough but I think best case for Jarvis is to be a smaller and slightly lesser version of Meier.
The crouse trade feels rich to me. I like him and he is signed long term but seems like a lot give up nikishin.

Stealing ideas - TDL
I think that’s a lot to spend on a guy like Bennett. He is a good player but everyone in Florida has inflated numbers last year. Not sure you see another 28 goal season from Bennett. That’s a lot to give for a guy who will most likely be a 45-50 point guy but the term is a positive

There are certainly other center options, O’Reilly for example. Do think the canes need to go after someone who can be at least partially the second line center for the playoff run. I still have belief that kk can be it at some point but for now having him as a 4C is just great depth

I’m expecting drury, necas, and kk all to have time at center and wing this year. I’d expect KK to be 2c to start the season. A 3rd line of drury, kase, necas where necas and drury can both play center

KK will be the 2nd line center. The canes major business is done. Moving bear or Gardiner and signing necas is the only thing left to do

Agreed. Bear is just moved out as they won’t have the cap to sign him and necas

Can and will are far different things. I know Francis spent some money last year but that certainly goes against what was a pretty big sample size in Carolina of inactivity. I’d be pretty surprised to see him throwing out a huge contract to klingberg

Rees isn't NHL ready.
I like the idea of Soucy, but not at that price.
That Nylander trade... He's not the perfect fit, but it's less putting a square peg in a round hole than Miller and Fiala so I'd be okay with that.</div></div>
I agree on both your first 2 points. The klingberg deal is a lot but it’s probably what it would take. I see him being a really good fit with Slavin but that’s my opinion. TDA is going to cost more than 4.25 and I’m not willing to do that with all the question marks.
Rees can be replaced with a ufa on a cheap deal I just didn’t feel like picking one

It’s a give quality to get quality situation. If ur making 2 deals one will center around necas and the other will center around morrow

The Calgary deal is about right. To get fiala I think you need to give up another premium piece which is likely to be morrow, unfortunately

Calgary deal
I think the value is pretty fair for the Calgary trade and I think it’s one that could really help the canes. I don’t see the need to resign domi and Cole. I’d rather see Lorentz in the lineup and use the domi money to upgrade on Cole, maybe Manson?

If not this year then next
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>greytcanes</b></div><div>If I did the trades over I would probably move Suzuki to Ariz. They are not in a win now mode, so taking on expiring salary with young prospects is good for them. Next year's draft is outstanding, so they almost don't want to improve too much. Expiring salaries and prospects are the premium....they can spend once they have a better idea of what they really have.
I would include Morrow in the trade for Mags, Calgary will need both short term and long term answers on defense....neither or which can cost much at all because they have to pay so much to keep their key offensive players</div></div>
I think this makes a lot of sense. I don’t want to move morrow but if you are going to make 2 trades for premium assets he is going to have to be a piece that’s moved. Apart from necas he is the canes 2nd biggest asset as a trade chip
